A list of disturbing mangas where the queerness of the protagonists holds a central place in the plot, because i am personally growing increasingly frustrated and/or bored with the innocuous queer representation in utterly sterilised mainstream medias.

These queer mangas are ambivalent, some of them might deal in harmful tropes, but they are interested in queerness, and won't treat it as fragile porcelain or unstable explosive.

TW everything you can think of, like this stack is not a most-hardcore-stuff-you-can-read marathon list, but honestly the only reason it's not classified +18 is because i didn't include any Gengoroh Tagame.

Manga Autobiographies (meaning the author is writing about their own life)

Manga I would consider LGBT rather than a specific genre like BL or GL. I also included lesser-known stories I enjoyed that had LGBT characters whose identities are not made to be major plot points.

It's hard to find queer Manga and it's even harder to find ones with good representation.

Manga with queer themes are often extremely sexualized (yaoi and yuri for example). They often feel very disingenuous, as if the person writing the Manga has never even talked to a LGBTQIA+ person. These Manga are often written for straight audiences that just want to get off to a gay couple.

But luckily there are a few Manga that have really good representation and that are often even written by a queer person.

Here are my recommendations as a person that is also part of the LGBTQIA+ community:

SFW and light NSFW, simple and short BL manga for non BL fans

most have lgbt characters, some just have ~the vibes~
