Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru (also known as The Detective is Already Dead, or its shorthand, Tanmoshi) is one of those experiences that you just cannot describe. It's a shame that this absolute gem of a light novel has flown under the radar for so long, but no longer! An official localization recently released and anime adaptation to air in a couple of days are present as well.
(As of writing, this is a summative review based on my experience of reading all five volumes currently available in all languages.)

Reminiscing on the past is something we all do. We hold nostalgia for the past. But when something is over, it’s over. When it’s done its’ done, and when someone is dead, they’re dead. You may think fondly on your memories with them. Even try to reconnect in some way. Some visit graves, some pray to gods. But at the end of it all. What’s gone is gone. In this novel, we follow Kimizuka Kimihiko. As the assistant to the World Famous Detective, they travelled the world for three years, and lived unforgettable memories together. However, by the time the novel starts, the detective is

First of all the first episode of this anime (as of now only the first episode is out) for me was amazing. The reason why I decided to read the novel was because of how much I had enjoyed the first episode. After finishing the novel I had to make a review.
The art on the cover and in some of the pages was really nice and showed lots of expression in the characters. The story was very intriguing besides some parts that were a bit confusing since it switched the point of view from one character to another but eventually I would figure it out. The ... Dec 26, 2021
Tanmoshi Vol 1 Review
"You will be my assistant." These small yet insignificant words in the grand scheme of things carry a heavy weight in a series of convalescing events, until eventually they converge on each other. An ever-revolving narrative. Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru, also known as The Detective is Already Dead. Or more colloquially to its mainstream audience, Tanmoshi, is one of those encounters in the world of light novels you just can't explain. A hidden gem in the mass stockpile of more relevant material. A far-fetched duo, paths unlikely to ever cross, scouring the entire globe. ... Mar 28, 2023
If you are looking for a comment written by a light novel Expert, then this is not the comment you're looking for.
I never read a light novel before and out of nowhere i decided to buy one. Tantei wa Mou is my first light novel ever, and as a humble beginner, I really enjoyed this novel so much. I found this a well written LN, which was able, with its amazing atmposhere and dialogues, to keep me reading the book. In addition I loved the characters, but especially the relationships between all of them. Last but not least, the general idea of the "The Detective is already Dead" ... Oct 30, 2024
This anime is the best in dialogue and the animation is awesome in its own ways. The directing and voice casting were superb and they deliver it well on its course over the year. The characters and the design were good and awesome and i think that many people like the main heroine and the story is unique and the school themed were not involved and this anime deliver it so well. The story is not predictable but you can enjoy it anyway. The art-style is best for the story and well-rounded , they have flaws and they react to situation very good.Others will enjoy this series very

This story for me is acutally pretty good if it wasn't for the anime adaptation.
I bought the First volume right when it was announced that it will get a anime adaptation. Though super hyped about the adaptation i was just plainly disappointed. even so much that for me, it destroy the experience and feeling that I had when reading through the light novel so that it leaves a bad after taste when thinking about the butchered scenes from the anime adaptiation. The story and art is actually pretty good. From the covers and the art shown in the LN, the Characters though fulfill to many ... |
