While the beginning's a bit rough, this manga plays with expectations and ultimately makes for a cute love story.
The characters are extremely expressive, the artist is great at capturing nuances through facial expression. And the various character dynamics--especially considering how multiple of them are hiding their true selves behind masks--are well written and intriguing. The main conflict is written well and I feel like it's easy to get invested once the story starts peeling away it's layers and you see there's more than it initially lets on.
My one complain is that many parts feel heavy-handed, especially in the first chapter. In the first few pages
...
they communicate a character's emotional state by having him hold a box cutter to his wrist, and while they never actually go into selfharm (or maybe Because it was purely metaphorical) it felt really insensitive and over-the-top. Some of the dialogue is also so obviously 'look, these characters have Homophobia!' that it feels a little shallow. It doesn't help that the start of the story is pretending to be as generic as possible.
But again, that's just the first chapter. Overall it's a solid story.
