Ojisans need more love!! Ideally the characters would all be in their 40+, but since there aren't as many of those, I've set the minimum age to be included to 35~

Purposefully left out ones that I didn't like so much, but those are tagged with "oyaji" in my manga list if you want the full list~

This is a list of quality BL works that avoid a lot of common unhealthy tropes in the genre.

Wholesome in this context does not necessarily mean fluffy stories devoid of drama (though there are some). A lot of these do have drama, but the point is that the relationships have a large focus on consent and are also healthy, positive influences for the characters.

All of these entries are complete and are personally recommended favorites (roughly arranged in order of enjoyment).

All works listed exhibit the following:
- Consensual, positive, non-toxic relationships
- Strong characterization and/or strong narratives
- Completed, shorter length series (most are 1-3 volumes, upper limit is 5)
- Quality art (bonus points for unique and non-stereotypical art styles)
- Manga works only

Other common preferences, but not in every work:
- Relationship equality and/or reversal of expected dynamics
- Non-mundane settings and premises (speculative/supernatural/fantasy/sci-fi elements)

Comments for each entry are currently a work in progress.

This is my favourite tone of story, so any recommendations to add in are very much welcome!

Finished manga with less than 10 chapters, but more than one (I have a stack of Oneshots if that’s what you’re looking for!)
I also have stacks for manga with 10–50 and 50–100 chapters!
The only other criteria is that they’re all good manga!

If you're looking for more than simple fluff and classic twist and want a story that will stay with you for a long time after you're done reading, these are for you. Not to worry, these aren't dark dramas, they have their own kind of happy ending, but it's not with a carefree light heart.
I've only listed the reads that even though they really got to me, they were still beautiful stories. Each one of these titles gripped my heart and made me feel more than the usual BLs. Whether it be a character or the storyline, my mind kept going back to it, even several other reads afterwards.

Maybe it's how expressive their ears get, or how strong and assertion they can be, but there's just something about beastmen in BL that make them irresistable. Here are some favorites, ranging from hot to hoooooooot and from sweet to heartmelting. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!

This stack is for any series that prominently features merpeople in their mer-forms for the majority of the series.

This stack will not contain series where the merperson spends most of their time in human form, where the merperson is only a side character, or that contain excessive sexual content. Anthologies on this stack must be exclusively or primarily about merpeople. I will not include one-shots. Merpeople that do not fit the traditional aesthetic will also be included.

Unfortunately, many of such series are not available on MAL.

You will find a variety of genres and stories in this stack, and I will regularly edit it to accommodate new arrivals.

Wholesome (NSFW marked) BL manga for spooky season and beyond!

Wholesome to me means that there is a sweetness and kindness in the relationships, good consent when there is NSFW content, and that the relationships aren't toxic.

Bawled my eyes out reading these, but that's why they're excellent. Some of them are truly tragic, but some are happy tears inducing (up to you to figure out which is which!).

Note, for BL of the Dead Anthology (collection of oneshots): I am specifically talking about Chapter 8.

Sadness in various levels, from "a little bit teary eyed" to "absolutely bawling my eyes out". Some happy tears, some heartbreakingly tragic.

Most of the series are completed, from different genres and themes, not in any particular order.
