Both are short manga by Natsume Ono, focusing on main characters that have had a rough childhood and/or absent parents. Both have some romantic and coming of age elements, as well as similar bittersweet moments. The art is also similar. The main difference is that Not Simple is a bit more depressing, while Ristorante Paradiso has some uplifting moments.

There is a similar vibe between these two stories. Both have a restaurant with a female owner that wants a place with all workers being handsome men. Both restaurants have Italian cuisine. Both have an age gap love story. Both restaurants have a new staff member that is related to the owner. The differences are: Ristorante Paradiso is a Josei manga. The owner has a thing for bespectacled men. Owners relative is her daughter. Dolce is a BL manga. Any handsome man will do. Owners relative is her son.

Both stories involve a young woman having feelings for a kind, older gentleman.

I was really surprised Natsume Ono is not (like Kiriko Nananan) related to La nouvelle manga movement. Her works have this typical european feeling, her art is quite european too and slice of life appears to be her favourite genre... There is a certain connection between "Ristorante" and "Pumpkin" (and it does not refer to food).
