I'm going to be blunt here, this story is the furry iteration of My Next Life as a Villainess and when I say furry I don't just mean the beastmen characters but the main character is a HUGE furry. This story is a furry harem.
Okay, the story, like Villainess, is about a young woman who dies and is reincarnated as an aristocrat protagonist in the novel she was reading before death. Pretty standard isekai premise. She worked herself to death in her previous life and now seeks a leisurely life as a cafe owner. Of course there are forces at work that will try
...
to prevent this but we will get to those.
The main character Ronia is a confident self-assured and magic wielding cafe manager. She can take care of herself and has spent her life working toward independence knowing that the character she has been reincarnated as will meet an ill fate like in the original novel. Nothing unusual or really original. The first problem I want to bring up is that the story itself doesn't have a lot of originality except the furry harem aspect. This is a escapist slice-of-life isekai and therefore follow traditional tropes. This isn't inherently bad but also doesn't lend itself to deeper subject matter or story. You have her doing normal cafe actions like make food and drinks and be hit on by the guys. Speaking of guys, the beastmen. You have Sena the Jackel, Chise the wolf, Ryusei the cougar, and their leader Shize the Lion. Yes they are attractive. Yes they are ideal boyfriend material. Yes they're hot, I mean, they're strong mercenaries whose job it is to defend the town from neighboring forces and invaders. They live and work in the town Ronia opened her cafe in and interact with her on a regular basis much to the animosity of the humans. Ahh yes our old friend, racism. It's not a story with beastmen without the humans hating them for no reason except the usual "They're dangerous bloodthirsty beasts who will kill us all in our sleep." Again nothing original. But who's cares because they're hot.
One thing I want to give the story props for is that the beastmen do have their own varying thoughts and personalities that get examined however briefly. Sena is the one who gets the most screen time and he's the sensitive intellectual type. Chise is the over-the-top type who sticks his foot in his mouth. Ryusei is the shy one who wants to be loved. Rysuei is the confident leader who not afraid to make his desires clear through this words and actions. They all adore Ronia and vow to protect her and her shop. They all share the same sad backstory which even without me telling what it is, you figure it out.
Now I want to bring up the human cast which also leads me to my second problem with the series. The humans are just the worst in more ways than one. They're solely there as cardboard cutouts to do a single job and that's it which was propel Ronia out of her aristocratic life and into the arms of her harem. Ronia parent's and brother are overly abusive and terrible for no reason other than to supply backstory and trauma to Ronia. The human love interest aka the Prince, actually was compelling when you see him in flashback at first but then falls victim to the plot because the beastmen are the love interests not you. So run into the arms of that other woman who is obliviously a huge bitch but who cares because none of you are relevant. Then you have Ronia's brother who despite having not been seen other than brief flashback, you know he's a looming antagonist for no reason. That's the problem. They're all terrible for no reason. There is nothing to justify their behavior beyond their sadist attitudes beyond "we're stereotypical royalty and have to act like complete monsters." Thankfully you have the grandfather who serves as the sensible figure in the human cast as well as a few other briefly mentioned "friends" who I assume will be revenant later.
One more complaint I have is the fairy aspect of the story. Which I wonder why it's included at all? You have the beastmen and Ronia has magic but there are also these fairy creatures who help Ronia out in the cafe. Its not a huge issue or a issue at all but it's weird. They serve no real purpose beyond just helping out and being cute. But I question why they're there are all. They're not relevant to the story or the characters. They don't add or take away from the story, they're just there.
All in all, there isn't a whole lot to the story. This is a harem story. There is romance and beastmen. So you're basically reading this for furry romance which is a perfectly good reason to read anything.
