Both series feature the relationship between a robot and an older man (in Bocchi Hakase it's the professor who created Robo, in Ponko it's the new elderly master for the maid robot Ponko). Both slice-of-life manga, these series deal with themes of humanity and mortality, often with irreverent humour and bittersweet melancholy. It's not uncommon for a reader to laugh and then cry while reading these manga.

Both series take place in a rural place in Japan with an aging population. A young outsider comes to help the people in that rural location and overtime becomes friends with them.

Live to Work ? or Work to Live ? Both comedy series touch on the topic about work life and how essential it is for the protagonists to work. Both series are filled with lots of hilarious moments, and often times dark humors too that might even cause some to cringe a little. On one hand, you get to witness these adorable rabbits in Usagi-moku Shachiku-ka, while on the other you get to enjoy the funny awkward expression of Ponko in Ponkotsu Ponko.
