Both were created by Chigusa Kawai. Georges Saphir, the main character of La Esperanca, makes his apperance as a transfer student in the second volume of Alice the 101st.Overall La Esperanca is a great story, and the fact that the characters interact in Alice the 101st was a great surprise. Both deal with musical themes, though La Esperanca didn't concentrate solely on music.  

Both series are about music. The main leads, Aristide and Kahoko are new to music at the beginning of their respective series and they start out learning violins as amateurs, only to find out that they possess a unique talent to playing instruments. There are also a lot of hot guys surrounding both main leads.
