The only reason why I am not giving this a perfect score is because this story isn't yet complete. Once it ends I will give another full review.
See, perhaps I'm biased, but this story is a masterpiece thus far. If you're queer (especially trans), or know someone who is, just curious, you should read this. Hell, I think everyone should read this just to understand.
The plot is so simple, like a dystopian novel. Only one aspect is added, and suddenly everything changes. Something so simple makes you question so hard, "What exactly is gender? What exactly is love?".

One of the few manga I would give a 10/10. It's a beautiful story about identity, and even if you don't find identity struggles personally relatable it's still a great read. Aside from that (I would have left it short and sweet, but it's demanding I make my review longer) The characters are written masterfully, and while some may come off as unlikeable, they realize thier mistakes, and they grow. It's a manga I feel people that don't feel comfortable with identifying themselves as a certain group or just have a problem fitting in with the gender norm in general, along with a unique concept; what if everyone had the freedom of choosing their sexes at a young age?
- While most characters in the manga have no problem and easily adapts their choice in sexes along with their personality, there is definitely a minority that is highlighted throughout the manga with different characters with their own unique perspectives, discovering themselves or forced to hide their true selves because of the gender norm. Nothing's black and white. Nobody ...

This manga can overtake other romance animes if adapted as an anime. The plot itself is so unique. The character design of the mc looks like a man and a woman at the same time-- it matches her description perfectly.
I honestly am torn about the outcome of the manga. You will love every characters, and I think it will be better for the mc to either just die or become mona lisa. I highly recommend this story. It will make you indecisive especially about your gender hoho. jk. Gender bender is my primary preferred gender amongst all genres, and so far this manga surpassed my expectations ...

The Gender of Mona Lisa is a wonderful piece of media that I recommend to everyone who is even slightly interested in alternate gender identities and expressions. Or just teenagers working through their doubts and feelings, that is.

One of the best histories I could ever read.
The art is lovely, the characters are relatable and adorable the plot is very unpredictable, heartwarming and Exciting. even if you're not used to this type of plot, it makes you feel concerned about the characters... The final it's great, I wasn't expecting anything but it moved me ... It's a 10/10 It's a plus if you're struggling about your gender identity or orientation. Here are characters who are implied Aroace, gender fluid, BLM, wlw... A lot of stereotypes and gender roles portrayed as simple things for those who doesn't know about identity issues. 100% recommended |
