I’ve recently read Gunjo Senki, Nobunaga concerto, so I came across this manga.
It is a historical manga, BUT IT IS A SHOUJO! And it is based on an Ikemen dating game!! Damn, this sound amazing, maybe I’ll love it maybe I’ll hate it. Let’s find out. So I started. And actually liked it.
Ikeru means “cool, good looking” and Men means umm.....men. So Ikemen is a genre where all male characters are good looking. A reverse harem, or something like that.
Story. 7/10
It is a simple story, a girl in modern day Japan called Mai gets transported back in time via a wormhole
...
to Nobunaga’s time. Specifically the moment when he is at Honno-Ji, and the temple is burning. She saves him, and let the flirting rom-com begin!
Also, another modern day Physics student— Sasuke has travelled back with her.
Nobunaga was supposed to be terrifying, Mitsuhide was 14 yr older than him.
Tokugawa Ieyasu was much younger. Yet everyone here looks like a model.
They go to war without a helmet, coz they wanna look good! Don’t look into the historical aspects of this manga. See beyond them, and you’ll have fun.
It is a love story. Girls like tall, handsome, dangerous guys. A psychologist, Jordan Peterson says that girls like it when a guy is hard cruel to the world and soft for her. And she loves to make his life better, make him a better person, make him happy. Mai also sees Nobunaga as a project, as a man who is in pain, looks cruel but is kind inside. Maybe I’m thinking too much. Lol.
Art. 7/10
I really liked the art. The armour, design are all great. I’m happy this isn’t the weird old shoujo art.
Characters. 7/10
All characters are historical up to a limit. They are all altered to make them fit well into a light romantic comedy. They are quite likeable. Just be prepared to see Nobunaga, Ieyasu, etc blush. Coz they are in shoujo manga.
Overall. 7/10
I had fun reading this. No complaints. This is a short, simple manga based on Ikemen Sengoku dating game. For that premise, it is very well made.
Recommend if you want a light, fun read. Romance, comedy, and a bit of historical characters.
Not recommended if you want a philosophical, action, historically accurate seinen.
Thank you for reading!
