Manga with dark fantasy world building. Stories set in a fantasy setting

Critics & Connoisseurs was a club that was founded in 2008 and ended club activities on the 31st of 2022.

The goal of the club was to come up with a list of highly recommended quality shows and manga that are exemplary either within its genre or universally. A manga needed a 70% approval rate in our voting to get on the relation list. The following manga are all part of said list.
Do note that our club's main focus always was anime, our club's readership was relatively low which results in a lot of manga not being able to reach enough votes to get on the relation list despite having a 70% or higher approval rate.

Dark fantasy series that have a "gritty" feel to them. No urban fantasy.

When people try to explain why they love a manga so much, you might find the usual "I love the characters", "really like the art", "world building!!". Which, by no means is a bad thing, but an element of manga that is not very commonly talked about it panelling. It's very easy to confuse composition and panelling, but hopefully this list will help you experience the true beauty of how important panel structure is to maintain consistent flow whilst reading!

Also sometimes labelled as a splatter, the main focus of the manga is well the blood, guts and dismembered body parts. Shock is a key element of this genre. Movies such as the SAW series are famous for the difficult-to-watch torture sequences, but what a bout the manga? This list is compiled of some of the most gory manga I have seen that aren't pornographic.

Sometimes, all I need is a fun group of friends having fun together to have a good time. Here are all the fun groups of friends that made me sad to say goodbye. All genres but leans heavily romance.

Worldbuilding - "the process of constructing a world, originally an imaginary one, sometimes associated with a fictional universe." These kinds of manga are usually set in a fantasy and/or sci-fi world, and excel at establishing & showcasing the rules/history/economy of their fictional universe. List was created through collective data from multiple websites of people's answers as to what manga are considered to have great world building.

Manga in which a tall lady is either a primary or important secondary character.
