The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. Manga that depict the life of people during World War 2 and its consequences. List may be incomplete since it only contains series that I'm currently aware of. Manga included are set in real historical settings & does not include those set in a made up world but may include fictional things in the setting. Manga that Fujimoto Tatsuki (Chainsaw Man author) mentioned in the Magazine Switch. These mangas can range from emotional roller coasters to psychological thrillers with deep meanings reflecting back on society. Each of the different genres make me feel some type of way so if you're looking for something to read that is worth your time and not a boring manga then hopefully you randomly pick a manga from this compiled list and you have a great time! Manga critical of war and militarism. Showing the atrocities of war, the consequences of it or promoting diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution. Some of them also critically dealing with wars in Japanese history. Some interesting manga centered around (or set in the backdrop of) war between nations in and around (an analogous version of) the modern era, with a slight emphasis towards the late modern period and beyond. I'll try my best to include a good amount of variety of locations / settings. I tend to like series with these criteria to them, so here's a list of them. Feel free to give me recs of stuff to add!
