Since there was only 1 non-preliminary view here it goes:
The biggest advantage of this manga is that it tells a short, interesting story relatively quickly.
The art is fine even though it focuses on blood much too much when it doesn't (would much rather the panels focus on character emotion)
The characters are OK, but not fleshed out and sort of cookie cutter, and I know it is short but there are series that can do more with less time.
However it was a nice brisk read and anyone interested in the premise should give it a read cause it isn't much of a commitment

So what do you get when a cold-like -deadly- disease makes someone's eyes go bloodshot, bleed then make the person pretty much 'explode'? You get an epidemic that makes Japan go nuts.

So Emerging is about a viral infection that spreads incredibly easily and produces pretty ugly symptoms. A family doctor, a cool, collected doctor and a Ebola-obsessed doctor manager band together to fight a disease that makes people go boom. Well, sort of. If you want the technical side of things, it just puts a lot of pressure on the blood vessels and the blood needs somewhere to go so it squirts out at wherever ... possible, causing an 'internal explosion' sort of thing.

The story is incredibly interesting. I got hooked onto it. I would've read it in one night if I wasn't slightly grossed out and if I didn't have to get up early the next day. Every chapter is pretty much a cliffhanger, you just want to know what happens next.

Characters were quite boring. Some were cute, some were weird and some were cool but nothing really impressed me. It was actually the characters that made me get through the first volume. First volume is half driven by character, half by story. The second volume, for me was just full on story. It's not bad or anything, it was still really interesting. If you're looking for good characters, this ain't your manga.

Art was pretty bland as well. Some scenes got me grossed out but I've seen worse. It's not anything that would haunt you, just make you go 'eww'. No biggie.

So yeah, I loved reading it. It hooks you quite easily. The ending for me, was kind of meh. I was expecting that ending but I dunno, something was missing I guess? It was a good ending, just not great. It could've been better. I do recommend this. If you have a weak stomach and is interested in the horror genre, this could slowly exercise you're tummy. People who are already into horror, you've seen worse. Not big on the horror side, what is truly horrific is that this might happen to us. So beware!! Nah, joking, but do stay healthy and maybe this will make people more aware on being clean. I mean come on!! You don't touch blood!!!!!!!! No matter what!!!!!! Learn that lesson well people, learn that lesson well...

Ok, basically you have a virus that no one has ever seen before, and drop it right in the center of one of the worlds most crowded cities....sounds like a lot of sci-fi books right? well, it is, but its pretty unique in manga. few mangas address the very real possibility of a viral infection appearing, spreading quickly, and being unable to stop it
while the story is very original, the art is nothing special, and as far as characters go, the ones in this series are pretty flat. what rlly brings about the believability of the story and the detail that the author goes into ... with the disease....
overall, i recommend that you read it

Manga very weak. The beginning is quite interesting, showing how they deal with the virus and how they always have a corporate asshole who thinks about maintaining a false appearance of lack of danger for financial reasons.

Although the beginning is cool, from the beginning there are certain improbable things. For example, the protagonist does not have knowledge about viruses and nomenclatures just to be able to pass the information to the reader through him. In addition to the fact that he does not even behave like a right doctor, he panics and takes action without analyzing the situation and having any zeal.

The ending is very ... disappointing, made through Deus ex machina. In addition to the fact that the author does not even develop the virus itself, which is the basis of the center of the story, either in its etiological agent or the form of transmission of the disease.

In the end, the manga seems like the author just wanted to criticize Japanese institutions and their customs that weaken him, using the disease as an excuse.

So I'm guessing there is going to be some renewed interest in this manga considering the world's current situation with Corona virus. I myself began reading it for the same reason, and while it isn't anything amazing, it is definitely an interesting read that you can probably breeze through in just over an hour.

An aspect I liked about the manga was it's semi realistic take on how a modern day Japan would respond to a pandemic. The virus itself is where the horror part of the manga comes in, and also where the art is at its best. Infected individuals turn into these bloated ... corpses with bloodshot eyes, eventually imploding as blood ejects from every orifice on their body. It is definitely gross and horrifying, but outside of these moments the art is pretty standard. Not amazing, but not terrible by any means.
I say semi realistic because the manner in which the virus is analysed and dealt with, as well as the issue of media spreading falsehoods (which is touched upon) is realistic, however I wouldn't imagine a haemorrhagic fever like this ever existing - at least I hope not, the Corona virus is already bad enough :).

Characters are probably the weakest part of the manga, though that is understandable as it is short and focuses mostly on how the virus is dealt with. This brings me to my main gripe with the manga which is it's length. I think it wraps up a little too quickly; I would have liked to see the manga take more time to fully explore the concept. Seeing how other countries fight the virus, what measures are taken, what are the effects of the pandemic on the world would have made for a very interesting read. (Basically think Contagion: Manga edition). I think this would also give time for the manga to have a greater focus on regular citizens being affected by the virus, which it does do at times, and these are some of my favourite parts of the manga.

Maybe I'm just wishing for these because I want to see a manga adapt our current situation LOL. Either way the manga definitely left me wanting more.

TL;DR
A good, short manga about a pandemic that can keep you occupied for a while if you're bored in quarantine.

This is a unique manga, as there aren't that many manga (or anime), to my knowledge, that focus on a pandemic like this. Hopefully more manga/anime are made in the future that focus on this topic. It is definitely likely.

4/10-ish.

This is really hard to review. The story and the art is really good. The MC Dr. Onodera is so annoying and dumb that it makes you enjoy the story significantly less however.

The guy goes "Ebola is worse than HIV?! Ehhhh naniii" or when he begs to join another doc going to an infectious disease lab and drives them there and he is like "ehhhh? How did I end up in a dangerous place like this ehhhhhh" or he asks the other doc if the disease is contagious and they agree it is but doesn't inform the people who went through a blood shower that ... they really shouldn't be making fucking bentos to people at school when they are bleeding from their fingers. The guy freaks out over everything.
If the main character was even a little bit more competent this would be a great story. But the guy is just dumb.

This manga has very little to offer beyond an interesting premise. The disease is quite terrifying due to how violent and contagious it is, but it's not really developed any further beyond that, which is a serious drawback as it's really the only interesting part of this manga. The art feels very lacking, the characters are all bland and uninteresting, and it doesn't feel like the reader is ever given a reason to care about them, which makes the fact that any of them could get infected and die at any moment very unsuspenseful. The woman with the Ebola fetish is the only character I ... really remember, and NOT for good reasons. The plot doesn't do anything interesting at all, and the ending is just abrupt and boring - it feels like the writer just had a cool, gruesome idea for a disease, didn't want to flesh out any characters, and didn't know how to end the story so just pulled everything else out of their ass.
