Review comes with SPOILERS.
I initially decided to check out this one-shot because of my intense love and fascination with Blue Period, a fantastical manga written and drawn by the same author, Yamaguchi Tsubasa. And just as I expected, the story left me with need for more chapters.
Nikochin (Omose) is a highschool delincuent who decides to make a bet with his friends. They propose him to sleep with Natsume, a straight-faced classmate who is only interested in drawing. He has three days to play the prank.
Because of the one-shot format of the story, we don't really get to know a lot about the characters.
...
But despite that, I loved how Natsume and Nikochin interacted with eachother. While Nikochin tries to be playful, laid-back and even rudely daring, Natsume remains calm and serious, to the point it kinda scares Nikochin away. The dialogue would be the main dish of the story, though the marvelous drawing of body and face expressions adds a lot of flavour to the manga.
Personally, I adore the dynamic that these two have. Natsume is really blunt, saying everything that she has on her mind while mantaining a composed expression. She sees straight trough Nikochin, which makes him uncomfortable, but not in a bad way. The way she talks about him may be harsh at times, but it is clear that she perceives him as who he really is, and not the persona that he tries to put on. And because she is so honest with Nikochin, it helps him to develop a more sincere relationship with her.
