Ubel Blatt itself isn't that great of a dark fantasy series to begin with, but this prequel is without a doubt one of the worst pieces of dark fantasy that I have ever read, and that is saying something.
The prequel literally opens with a villain raping a woman (possibly a child), who is then implied to be also raped by a horse after the villain leaves to take care of business. Less than 10 pages later the MC sexually assaults a girl (who is actually implied to be a child) for absolutely no reason, after they rescued his unconscious body that was floating down a
...
river.
Fast forward maybe a dozen or so pages again, and the villain shows up takes that same girl hostage, strips and sexually assaults her... again...
Think that's the end of it? Absolutely not.
Maybe a few dozen pages later, the MC runs into a female soldier (also potentially a child) that is wanting to fight back against a new villain, female this time, to rescue their brother they took captive, brainwashed, and experimented on... and imply to be using as a sex slave. So they MC decides to console them, offer their assistance... then tells them to strip naked for them. Next page you see that female soldier that asked the MC for help naked and crying.
MC does as he promises though, and goes off to fight the female villain... and well... ends up getting raped by her... Oh yeah did I forget to mention the MC is also a young boy as well?
Fast forward through maybe 100 pages of mindless political and military bs, and we end up with yet another scene of the MC being "forced to pay off a debt" by sleeping with a woman in a brothel.
Vol. 0 basically displays the absolute worst aspects of the dark fantasy genre, and does so repeatedly. Throw in boring political and military drama, half-baked revenge plots, repeated and needless displays of sexual violence against children, and constant ass pulls to defeat villains - and you end up with one of the worst offerings of dark fantasy in manga.
The only upside? The art is somewhat decent.
