**WHEN I SAY SHINTA I'M REFERING TO KENSHIN** ^-^
We've all seen the fights between Shinta (as Battousai & Kenshin) and Saito and also the one between Shinta and Aoshi. When Shinta fought Saito for the first time he was the ruthless Battousai and the fight was neutral. The second time they fought, he was Kenshin struggling not to become the Battousai. On both occasions (whether he was stronger as Battousai) Shinta wasn't a master of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu, which means he wasn't at his full potential. When he fought Aoshi, he had mastered the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu but was in COMPLETE CONTROL over his emotions and his goal. He wasn't no where near reverting to the Battousai and if anything at the time his main goal was to bring Aoshi back alive (as the Aoshi he knew). Aoshi on the other side was the darkest most ruthless Aoshi you ever see in the series and aside from his nonchalant attitude towards his own life he was at his highest fighting potential. Saito's potential never decreases nor increases in the series and treats all evil men the same. Either way, I reintroduced these details to keep in mind how the fights went down and to think about both characters highest fighting potential by using fights against Shinta as a measuring stick. So...WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT BETWEEN SAITO AND AOSHI??

This fight is what I missed the most in Rurouni Kenshin (next to Hiko Seijuro kicking more ass).

Saito gets my vote. He was beating top-notch samurai in the revolution when Aoshi was still a 16-year-old brat. He's got way more experience.

Hajime Saito FTW! He is the only man that can beat Kenshin's ass if he tries hard.

It'd be a hell of a fight, but Saito would probably pull it out in the end.

Damn that is a had one my two favorite character fighting it out. Comparing fight style saito could fight both far and close range but if he came in close aoshi would end him on the on hand aoshi twin kodatche (idk how to spell it) is only good of close range. I guess we would never know.

Probably Saitou because of his vast experience. He's what, twice as old as Kenshin and Aoshi.

Yeah, I'd say Saito as well but He's not much older than Kenshin. They are pretty close in age. He IS much older than Aoshi though.

Saito hands down, but it would be an interesting fight. I don't know how he would deal with hand-to-sword combat. And Aoshi is a freaking genius, so he might figure out how to beat Saito's sword technique if he could survive long enough.

Saito is far much stronger then Aoshi. For example he state himself that he have survived more bloodshed then Kenshin, Sanosuke and Aoshi together. Another proof is that he have survived all wars he have been in, and besides...he is the best character in RK dammit! :)

i dont think one person has said aoshi, lets look at the facts. when kenshin didnt master hiten mitsurugi style and was fighting as kenshin vs saito the second time(first time in rurouni kenshin series) saito had the upperhand, but when he reverted to battousai i think it would of been a matter of time before he beat saito. when kenshin faced aoshi the second time he mastered hiten mitsurugi and his emotions. even after that saito still cut him. but it was obvious kenshin wasn't giving 100% the whole time. he needed to use the final attack to beat him. all of saitos big attacks kenshin started to avoid when he turned into the battousai. but that last attack that saito used on that blind guy is a different story and who knows maybe kenshin would have to use his final attack on him.

here are basic facts between saito and aoshi:
Saito
-------
More Experience/Older
1 Regular sword with attacks for all ranges
More accurate/Powerful attacks
He smokes a lot so i doubt hed be able to have much endurance after all those years

Aoshi
-------
Less Experience/Younger
2 Small Sword(kodache)
Better Defense/Quicker but less powerful attacks
He is young and is probably in the best shape he will ever be in.

i did this quick so im sure my grammar, and such was very bad.

After all this im surprised that it wasn't more of a 50/50 split

But, after all this my gut tells me Saito would win but be very very close. i think experience would determine the winner. I just see aoshi making a mistake and saito capitalizing on it. and after he beats him if he didnt kill him hed say something like: "Maybe when you grow up kid." but thats just me

Watsuki Nobuhiro said that Saito is the strongest character in RuroKen. Kenshin could defeat him (only if he had to protect someone).

Really? I thought it was like this:
1. Seijiro Hiko
2. Himura Kenshin
3. Makoto Shishio... though I'm wiling to bet that he would have been better than Kenshin if he wasn't burned
4. Hajime Saito. He fought Kenshin to a draw, before Kenshin learned the final technique - Amakakeru...
5. Seta Soujiro
6. Shinomori Aoshi

I think Saito is way more skilled.

Another reason I think Saitou would beat Aoshi is that Saitou has no qualms about killing, whereas Aoshi is a bit more hesitant.

@koutsouro well they were debatably equals when Kenshin was young and a hitokiri...debatably. After Kenshin learned the Amakakeru Ryu No Hirameki they ceased to be on the same level. But as for Aoshi vs Saito, I agree with you. Waiting would win.

@UnAssisT Best comment so far. Although I agree with Saito, I also am surprised its not more 50/50. People overlook Aoshi and his fight with Kenshin when he was forced to use the final attack.

If You mean Anime, I also go for Saito. At the end of the series including manga: 50/50. Why?

UnAssist gave a great summary already. I am gonna add to that:

@UnAssisT

1) Smoking doesn't seem to have an effect. Saito's durability can intercept punches of Sanosuke (and maybe even Anji) with ease. If he would get cancer...

2) Aoshi's attack power during anime series was I think indeed far below Saito's. Only logical, 'cause kodachi is not meant for heavy attacks.

Aoshi's Ougi: Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren is on same level as "restrained" Gatotsu. Saito's Ougi - the Gatotsu Zeroshiki is the strongest attack besides Anmakakeru no Hirameki. In MANGA Aoshi's Ougi is equal in strength as Saito's!! Piercing power of Gatotsu remains strongest of them all.

---------------------------

STATISTICS

Strength & Endurance

Physically about the same. Both very durable. So far only Aoshi demonstrated he can crush a sword with his hand grip. so maybe slight edge.

Speed

Definitely Aoshi superior. But Saito's reaction speed is on par, in close-combat that counts.

Intellect

Both genius in reading surrounding and opponent psyche. Aoshi's has superior senses (both natural genius and training Oniwabanshuu)

Saitou is far more used in taunting the enemy though. Analytical skills and reading opponent's intention of movement and change your own was compared to almost Hiko Seijiro's level.

Martial Arts - Boxing vs. Aoshi's Kenpo

I think Aoshi maybe is more trained in it. Saito picked up boxing on the side. Well versed in it, but not master level.

Techniques

Saito's Gatotsu - only the Zero-one is a threat to Aoshi, but...
Aoshi's earlier defense-style goes well to swift jabs and cuts. The Gatotsu is maybe to heavy a thrust to deflect "casually" with kodachi.

Aoshi's Onmyou Hasshi (throwing both kodachi's one hidden by the former.
He did this during his last fight against Kenshin with succes and in the manga in the Jinchuu arc it failed. Would Saito anticipate it? Probably.

Jissen Kenbu - The "water dance" of Oniwabanshuu. How would Saito fare against that?

Saito's Ougi: Gatotsu-Zeroshiki: tears a body in half, pins one part to a wall!!(already against Usui). True Gatotsu can pierce a steel door.

Aoshi's Ougi (end of the manga): Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren: chops tree-trunks in parts!!

If not for his playful demeanor to a fault I think Seta Sojiro "the tenken" would beat both Saito & Aoshi.

His speed surpasses the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu & both Saito & Shishio stated Sojiro giving off no killing intent
makes even a veteran like Saito unable to calculate when to strike.
