Can't vouch for the 1995 version since I haven't seen it. Might feel dated since even the ones from the early 2000s do. The 2010 version bored me to tears, so that's certainly not a recommendation from me if you decide to watch that lol. It has a good score average on sites though. You have plenty of better options. A lot of these shows are based on true events, unless noted otherwise. Like a lot of the fusion types. But even the stuff that is true to form has to flesh things out and add lots of other stuff.
Oh wow, firstly I'm impressed that you both followed through since most people never get around to actually watching the historical dramas that I recommend. *laughs* I can definitely understand being a little confused in the early going. Things are coming at you fast, there are SO many names to put to faces, and Chinese drama is a more difficult adjustment than Korean drama. My first CDrama was the 23rd historical drama that I watched, an amazing series, but it still took maybe 10 episodes to settle in and get a really good feel for what was going on. A lot of times with this genre, the backstory will be fleshed out in the first few episodes, sometimes the actual main actors not appearing for a handful. But it sets the table for the rest of the series and makes you invested. Secret of Three Kingdoms wasn't one of these. You're thrust into a crazy plot right away and learning how everything works in real time as the main character does. I'd say the most sizable shift in quality is once Cao Cao arrives in episode 29. I thought the series did such a great job of building him up before he was ever on screen. Then his aura leveled up the show even more. Overall my favorite character is the Empress. I love how complicated she was and the acting was just phenomenal. If you guys loved this, there are plenty of others options whenever you're in the mood. This one is on my top 10, more in the 8-10 spot depending on the day. Some are far more epic though.
I don't watch many modern anime, but I have decided to give "Frieren" and "Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange" a try based on how quirky their premise seems like. I am interested on the former, because apparently it's a high fantasy anime focusing on dramatic characterization and the second is allegedly an entry more earnest on firefighting than Fire Force...
Oh, is that Oniisama e that I see? :) Enjoying it? Or is it a little too crazy? *laughs*
By the way, I got Astro Boy: Omega Factor last month or around the day of Osamu Tezuka's birthday. Definitely one of the most respectable Scorpios ever.
With that said, Merry Christmas!
I look forward celebrating it with family and great food later on, for sure!
Fansub doesn't leave me much time to watch anime, and when I have spare time, I just feel like grinding youtube videos instead, hahaa! I am almost done with Romeo and the Black Brothers, aside from that. It's a great series I am delaying. Also, watching the anime adaptation of Tezuka's Hi no Tori cycles. It's fine. Not impressed by it, but it's a serviceable watch.
