I'm new to the club. Just glad someone made a club for this subject(its about time).
I've wanted to go to japan for about 5 years now and I should be going sometime around next Christmas if all goes well.
Any suggestions?

Actually, I'm in Japan right now.

You can try to take the trains. JR and stuff, and learn to transfer. For the first two days in Japan I found fascinating and interesting overall (well, because I understand Japanese). I'm planning to go to more interesting places that go through Yamanote Lines, including Yurakuchou.

Last time, I've been in Japan for about 2 months just to look around, but this time (planning to go this summer) I'm doing more advanced level of things in Japan, which is working (part-time) and studying there.
