I honestly don't know if an 8 is doing justice for this series. Anyone care to tell why an 8 and not a 9? That is, what are flaws that stop this series from an 9. Haven't finished yet mind you, so mark spoilers please.

Be constructive please. I shouldn't have to say that though.

Deconstruction ≠ Darker & Edgier
Trope ≠ Cliché (Face it, nothing is completely original. Can't make something from nothing so to say.).
Fanservice ≠ Ecchi (Though ecchi can please the fans!)
Popular ≠ Sucks... maybe
Seinen = K-ON! Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen and Josei are demographics.
Anime/Manga = Japanese Cartoons! Deal with it.

Should of made myself a little more clearer. What I'm trying to ask is simple. What are the flaws of this series? Reviews on the site didn't say too much, apart from some art problems.

Just want to know what bumps this series down to an 8 in the eyes of other people.

Oh. I don't know, I completed it a while ago and I couldn't bring myself to give it more than an 8. And I only pumped it from an original 7 to an 8 because of the romance sub plot ( Yeah, I'm a romancefag)

As for flaws, I would say that most people don't like the art that much, including me. It also felt like it was dragging at some point in the middle. To be honest I think the manga strongest point is Yuu's great character development, it was handled really well, the other characters didn't interested me as much, some of them were good, some were bland and I didn't really care for Shougo's drama, it felt unneeded. Also if someone is a fan of Martial arts, he would rate this high, since the author used realistic ones and explained them throughly in each fight and didn't just make up some stuff. I can't really mention more flaws than I already said and I didn't encounter anyone who badmouthed the series and all the reviews are 10 and 9. It would be helpful I guess, if someone who rated it low, could share his input.

I personally think it's good where it is, more people should read it but I can understand why some might not find it so appealing ( art, length).

Seeing that your not the type that enjoys action, yeah I'd say you'd lose out on some of what the manga offers.

An eight at worst really doesn't seem terrible at all. I can see this climb higher though, provided it gets attention. Might not appeal to your type, but it's romance warranted a bump in score from you! If the more common type of person (teenagers that like action namely) pick this, I can see a rise.

I never expected anyone to reply to my thread TBH (awfully quiet around here). This thread is still open to discussion though. I want more opinions from people. I can't judge this series properly anymore, it was practically designed for me! I'm not truly blinded though, so I'm willing to listen.

I know what you mean. This manga felt like it was made for me during the time I read it. I could relate to Yuu so much at the same time as I wanted to start learning martial arts because of this. I still come back from time to time to re-read some of the fighting parts and even browse this forum.

Although the whole theme of Holyland might seem pretentious to many people who aren´t interested in street fighting or understanding human interaction within the kind of environment in which this series played in.

For example the qoute in the beginning where the author tells us that there is a place called the Holyland where "he" belongs to i.e Yuu. That was said several times throughout the manga and that might turn people off from reading this.

But to me I understood that some kids who aren´t ready to become adults yet will always find themselves seaching for the easiest way around and try to maintain that place for as long as they can. It´s their Holyland and in this case, it´s the life within the streets as young adults.

That shit could sound pretentious and lame and I think that could be one of the reason to rate this series down since it´s not really common sense to understand the symbolism of Holyland.

So yeah.. its exaggerated use of metaphors could be one of the main reasons people put this down.

My only disappointment on this manga is:

    1. Not enough wrestling on both Yuu and Izawa's parts, especially Yuu. Also, I expected Yuu and Midorikawa to start play fighting, like, wrestling for fun, with Tsuchiya as something like a referee.
    2. The exact fate of Yoshi is unknown. Yoshi wasn't exactly there during the Two Years Ago chapters, neither was Tsuchiya, which could have been interesting on their parts, and it doesn't even matter if Tsuchiya didn't appear since he is already an interesting (and amazing) character. Yoshi to Izawa would have been like how Yagi was to Yuu, except Yagi is a much bigger scumbag.
    3. The same can be said for Tetsu, it would have been a little bit interesting to know why he did what he did.
    4. Where Muay Thai? ...okay, Muay Thai can basically be represented by Kickboxing, but still... And while we're at it: Where BJJ? Seriously, the Author could have brought up a Japanese catch wrestler who fought the Gracie family. We could even had Aikijutsu.
    5. I forgot, but did Ryuu die? By Midorikawa's hand? If yes, then Midorikawa is the only character in this manga who explicitly killed somebody, while even Izawa and King weren't shown to have done it. But to my disappointment, characters like Ryuu died, but not Yagi. If no, however, at least Ryuu would probably learn his lesson off-screen, the hardest possible way.

Other than that, this manga is a pure masterpiece.
Gintoki and Joseph ftw!
Also, STR or DEX? Quality build, of course!

Your nitpicks are pretty understandable except the muay thai part lol, as far as wrestling it had its use and importance even if yuu didnt use it much and idc if yuu didnt kill yagi He wouldnt kill anyone really,as for the yoshi fate it do look like he's done for being alone after all in the middle of the manga and for tetsu it looked like a lesson that not everyone will ever live peacefully after being saved and i just wish mori san added more chapters for characters but it looked like 7 years of drawing the manga might have burned him out a bit and wanted to finish the manga on a symbolic ending which satisfied me

Maybe just 1 or 2 fight scenes felt a little repetive. But that’s really it. Most sport manga have at least 1 round/fight/game that kinda feels repetive. I still think it’s amazing. I gave it a 9

You have forgotten to factor in personal enjoyment. If a person felt that this series was an 8 for them and not a 9 or higher, then that personal experience is important to factor in.

It's important to keep in mind that if one person does not enjoy a story as much as another for personal reasons (ie: taste in genre, artstyle etc;) the they are entitled to rate the series lower than you for those reasons. Whether or not a series is sufficiently flawed or flawless should not matter for everyone.
