Thematically, the end of this chapter was pretty strong and not what I expected. As Punpun lies all alone with seemingly nothing left, a simple 'おやすみ' brings the curtain down. But something so expected wouldn't have been in line with the series' themes now, would it? For more than anything, Punpun is a story about redemption. Asano ultimately subverts that glum image of the ending we had all conjured up with Sachi calling his name on the next page. She's there for him, a pillar of security with the child she's carrying a symbol of hope, very much like Punpun's uncle Yuichi meeting Midori.

Once Aiko tumbled back into his life, we all knew where it was heading. That dangerously fatalistic meeting, what the story had been leading to and what we had all been gingerly hoping for. As things spiraled further and further out of control it all comes to an abrupt halt with one of the most horrifyingly still scenes to ever grace the medium. As Punpun hosts Aiko's lifeless body on his back his world doesn't just shatter, it fucking smashes to pieces and any hope of redemption vanishes from the reader and Punpun's minds. After all, "you reap what you sow", right?

But then, "つかまえて". That on Sachi's behalf says so, so much about them and the series as a whole. About her. About him. On the brink of despair, the only person in the world who could have saved him, did. She relentlessly pursued him even though he's a right piece of work. She knows how flakey he is, even saw the blood from Aiko on his futon. Like Midori accepting all of Yuichi and his adulterous, messy ways - she accepts Punpun. And Punpun accepts her. The "君は... あたしだけのもの" serves as a contrast to what he's been calling Aiko up until this point with she being his world, and Punpun's world belonging to her. Sachi snugly fits into the equation with a phrase that's a touch more realistic, a little less lofty than what he had been calling Aiko.

Aiko pretty much saved his life by committing suicide, just like how she saved his life by leaving him during his youthful days. For all those who thought that the "cult" was a stupid meaningless part of this manga, think again. The tide turns as the cult turns.

>Mine and mine alone.
>Good night Punpun

So deep. Loved this chapter with the falling start aesthetics.

Great post, shoujoq. Guess I can just sit down and keep nodding to your words.
Expect the unexpected, eh Asano? Got totally misled by the meteor shower, no external apocalypse. Yet.

I must admit I didn't see this coming and I'm rather confused. I don't know what to make of it.

Beautiful chapter :*) The way Punpun was lying down on the ground thinking he's finally alone with his "Oyasumi" then seeing Sachi come reach out for him was really nicely done esp with the meteor shower in the background.

Ohh shit. So Pegasus predicted a meteor shower, hardly world ending.
But non-coincidentally it's the same time Sachi and Punpun reunite.
Could it end on not a completely hopeless and depressing note?

The ending of this chapter was perfectly done. Normally when the title drop happens, a time leap happens too. I thought Punpun was gonna die until Sachi "saved" him!

Oh wow, I figured there was almost a 0% chance for a good ending. I'm glad I was wrong, but we'll see what happens.

The meteor shower's started and it might mean that the end is near but that would be a wonderfully gorgeous way to go. That and this being the start of Punpun's real new beginning, with Sachi finally encountering him once again and being able to save his life just in time. It's moments like this that make me feel so happy, relieved, and emotional even since this moment was the one ray of hope in the series of hellish events that have transpired. It's not a completely happy ending since there were losses but it's enough to make me believe that there's still hope for their world.

Oh my It's just a wonderful that Punpun's don't die, if he was, I'll be really depressed but also thinking that's great manga but if he still alive is also greater, better, it's such a wonderful surprise!

But... I think about Aiko when I saw she's first, I might that she's from loving family, she was so happy and never wonder that she has so traumatic life, on the start for the ends. It's really makes me sad. I remember first reading manga, I don't like Aiko, beacouse of that, that I thinking she's happy but now I know the truth.

Brilliant manga my fave, I wonder what to be in the ending chapters

Sachi couldn't have appeared on better time than this to help Punpun with his suffering.

The meteor shower really wasn't the end of the world but it had other reasons behind it and now we all know that Pegasus really did predict it

Seki.. lost a friend in the Fire, and out came another. Not another Seki, but a start for a new friend.

Thanks, Sachi.

For them to find each other at the most unexpected possible moment, and in this place that has strong significance to them both, while the milky way they both saw from the same factory at different times is visible again, with shooting stars (thinking of the story punpun's dad told) is fucking amazing... it's like he's being opened up to a second chance at the innocent and happy life he always wanted. Sachi really is a GOAT

Dude that's amazing analysis. I am starting to appreciate this series even more after I read your thoughts. The parallel between Midori saving Yuuichi and Sachi saving Punpun is just awesome. One final thing I can hope from remaining chapters is that I hope Punpun finally finds his peace and happiness. My man has been through a lot (T_T)

That panel transition from Punpun saying Goodnight to Sachu saying Punpun was a masterpiece.
It's so beautiful how Punpun metaphysically and physically killed "God" by stabbing the same eye Aiko stabbed.

From a symbolic representation point of view, his left eye is stabbed out, and the left eye represents his past.
Punpun killed off his attachment to the past by stabbing his eye, freeing himself from its bondage.
Now, he has no choice but to look forward and live life forward as well as the right eye symbolically represents the present/future.
