So, Gai's past, huh? It actually sounds kind of similar to how one feels when going to college for the first time. This manga is racheting up the interesting curve.

Yeah. I want to know more about his past. I'm also really interested in why he's so awesome at fighting.

I can barely wait for the next chapter.

Although I have been enjoying this series, this was maybe the second time I had my attention grabbed greatly. The first would be the Abe chapter, but here when we saw Ishihara decide to stay with Gai I had to get close to my screen. What a cool guy, who does that to help out a guy he hardly knows! I wanted to see what would happen next.

And what came was Gai’s past to figure out where he became corrupted. I suppose Ishihara hearing it means nothing bad for the director and yet it will actually allow him to understand Gai on a level I can’t imagine he would ever speak of. It may allow these two to become a strong team. Abandoned and raised in an orphanage Gai never caused any problems. Perhaps Abe’s assessment that Gai would never thoughtless harm a person was accurate. At 13 he allegedly left the orphanage under his guardian Ikeda Takayuki on the deal that he would stay in a dismantled house for his business as a “real estate punk”. I recall Tachibana Real Estate doing that in Yakuza 0. The director thinks living without gas, water, or electricity was what made him snap and harbor resentment to society however Gai called it back to the first quote of the manga. It was rich because he was standing alone. “Human beings are seeds that are sprouting, destined to break the world with their growth! So stand alone”! Perhaps it was even expected that Gai could go live alone and get away from everyone like he did using the money he got. He did express that he’s used to fake kindness and trickery. He’s sick of lies and tricks and fake kindness and in fact that may be the source of his belief that everyone is warped and that we should embrace that like he did with Abe. “People are meant to be different”.

Two small details. We now understand the seriousness of Gai fleeing, he was set up with blood on his shirt and finger prints on the money and murder weapon. The other thing, everyone else confessed to crimes like rape, arson, and burglary. I wonder if they all did those things or if it was like when an innocent person cracks under pressure and claims they did a crime anyways. With the situation of how everyone arrived here I doubt that.
