| It was a dual perspective of emptiness. From Punpun's point of view, it's more about how he's a broken-hearted teenager going through puberty. Punpun daydreamed about his date that hasn't happened yet. Then, he walks naked, thinking, "Even if I am bold and naked like this, still no one understands." This emptiness also comes from his mother not allowing him back home that night; his drunken mother never understands. The scene with his mother also showed another point of view of emptiness, more like a single mother's emptiness. Beyond her sexual needs, she longs for something more—just a simple embrace from that man. Still expecting what Mother will do with that knife |
| The dynamic of Punpun's mother and the cheating guy is disturbing. In my interpretation, she just lost her dad, and is longing for a comfort only a father can give; something she probably she did not receive enough of growing up. While the cheating guy claims to have a good relationship with his own daughter, and starts comforting Punpun's mom as if it was his own daughter by affirming how much of a "good girl" she is. Possibly, hinting at his own dark desires. Very unsettling, but scary realistic with how some (mostly toxic) relationships operate on a more subconscious level. And that ending with her pulling a knife on him from the kitchen, yeesh~ And man, Punpun needs a bro badly. Someone he can just crash with and just talk to from time to time, poor kid. |
