I finished this a while ago but for some reason it popped into my head again lately and I think its because the disappointment was so palpable it remained with me. When I began the show I really thought I was watching a thought-out script, but it turns out they were just making it up as they went along.

They dropped so.many.plots. Its unbelievable to be stringed along for so many episodes for nothing. You get nothing.

# The relationship between Tarou and his sister. What relationship? We dont get anything, except a small revelation of her last dying words to him, which not only in themselves are mundane and predictable, but on top of that he doesnt even get to hear them fully by the end either. Why was he running after her, what did she say to him, why dont we ever get a full flashback of what occured on the day of the kidnapping? You know, for a while I thought maybe she was having an affair with the man, and thats why she was angry at her brother for following her, but whatever, its just another conjecture this show forces you to make because the writing was so bad.

# The body floating in the water. There is apparently corporate espionage going on. I say apparently because we barely see anything going on at all. We see Masayuki's dad talk 'secretly' (i.e - waffle exposition) to the lady doctor and thats it. And at the end of the show there are no consequences for either character, not even character arcs, they're just dumped like everything else.

# The worker at the lab who kick-started the second big 'inciting incident' of the story. We get NOTHING on this guy. Who was he, why did he do that, how did he do that, lots of questions and no answers. Please dont mistake this for smart deep writing, its barely writing at all. Of course he's dropped too, vanished into thin air by a desperate writer.

# They make the mayor a childhood friend of the main adult characters but dont do anything with that. He's just a caricature and its a waste. Much like the old geezer wandering the countryside. Oh my God, why did they introduce this character who has special powers and who does literally NOTHING to impact the plot or characters? Even at the end, the writer doesnt cause him to draw other monks to the area, they come themselves, so he's just in the crowd. I know he's meant for exposition, but he doesnt even give that much, or anything interesting, its baffling.

# Masayuki's mother. There's this big deal that she's not quite 'normal', then she vanishes and there's mild concern, nothing big enough to draw a manhunt (hey, she's just your mum, right?) and then when she returns she's suddenly normal again. Perhaps her initial appearence was to set a mood in Masayuki's house? Oh my, I dont want to make the writer appear bad by suggesting such a shallow and artificial reason for her existence!

# Finale with everyone in the same spot and smiling at us with cheesy thumbs up. Fuck you.

Sorry this seems like a hate-fest. There are many more inconsistencies with this show that render it near unwatchable if it werent for the production quality. I gave the show an 8, which isnt bad at all, but these points just had to be mentioned, I dont want people to just walk away from the show saying it was perfect and giving it 10s, because in my opinion the writing was very very poor and shouldnt be ignored, or more popularly, thought-up by the viewer themselves.

Word for word, you are absolutely right. It's been a while since I have watched it, but what stood out to me most, and what still stands out to me, are/were the many problems in the plot. To tell you the truth...I just don't see how anyone could have overlooked this , so I assume nearly everybody will be in agreement with you. This series clearly had all of those inconsistencies/problems you mentioned, and then some. I bet if you re-watched it you could easily get 10 more points.

I sometimes wonder if I should give it a 7 instead of an 8. Ghost Hound had the potential, but didn't make anything of it. It was sad really.

Well thanks for agreeing with me, I was expecting the first reply to be a scathing reply ripping my post to pieces. I really went into the anime with positive thoughts, the production is really good, I mean we all know how good the sound editing is, but story is more important than any other factor in a...story. Just too many 'eh?' moments in this show that cant be overlooked, and at times made me feel I was being insulted or something.

I wonder if there's more info on the production of this show, I mean I read comments in threads, during the latter half of the show that it was 'rushed', but was it? Was it meant to be 26 episodes originally? I dont know if that can be used as an adequate defense though, you cant expect to fix all the problems in the last four episodes, you need to introduce stuff, carry it to the end and resolve it properly. Tarou's relationship with his sister could have ended properly with a few more episodes, because it was consistently referred to throughout the show, but didnt resolve well. Everything else just needed to be fleshed out more before the end.

If I recall correctly it was supposed to be a full length series. Probably budget or something, not only was it a while ago but I wasn't interested then and didn't pay attention.

But yeah, they started so much they didn't finish that it's ridiculous. But for a lousy Production IG / Shirow show, it's better than a lot of stuff. Disappointing, though, I kind of liked it for what it is.

Yup, I agree with you. There was an insane amount of inconsistencies/plot holes/etc. I gave it a 9 at the time because I enjoyed it a lot regardless, but a lot of the shit they did in that show didn't make any sense. Oh well.

Lol, I even forgot about that. This show's story is like riddled cheese.

Shit, makes me want to lower it more too, but Ghost Hound did introduce me to Mayumi Kojima (OP music) so I cant outright hate it.
