This old man is profound. I found his earlier speeches in the flashbacks to be quite beautiful. Making fun to avoid quarreling- sounds like what he's doing now and wise as ever. Something we should all apply. The image of god half covering its eyes but refusing to look away as it powerlessly watches mobs of people rush to bad decisions. Perhaps even if only drops in the ocean, some can feel the presence of being watched.. As Junko put it, otherwise a conscience, maybe our inner selves cringing at the actions we know are bad but do anyways.

At this point however I was still seeing his profundities as not much more than riddles for a game.

However, the moment we saw a young mother looking at the buildings from above with her father, I was already teary eyed. The sentiment of the flashback was already beautiful, a memory to cherish. But then it became instantly relatable, discussing all of the lights as life itself. Happiness, anguish, sadness, love, hope, anger, whatever is going on in each of those houses. I say relatable, because every single time I take a walk late at night, I look into all of the windows, hear all of the noises leaving the houses, and think the same thing. That these are all people, separated, and living their own lives. Feeling all of these things, fighting their own battles. And a seat like his is a way to peer into all of those lives ever so briefly, a way to see the scale of human existence, perhaps a way to share ever so slightly with their own battles and victories. We are so close but so far away, like we're walking on iron beams.

To then turn the conversation into the topic of one's individual happiness and sadness, and the interconnectivity of those feelings felt fitting. From the flickering life of strangers, to him and his daughters light. The happiness and sadness of seeing your children grow and move farther away was another feeling I could deeply relate with. One of accepting both the beautiful and happy, and the ugly and sad as inevitable every step of the way. That's the feeling I connect with his face after speaking about how his children may come here with their own one day, a blissful and bitter acceptance. Happy and sad.

Lastly, to say that when she will bring her own children, he will watch on that chair, it gives me a strong feeling of the god story, like he will be watching her from above, no matter the mistakes she makes. Junko postulated god as conscience, but maybe it's also the spirit of those we want to make proud.

I have many questions, and also strong feelings. I would like to give all of his flashbacks far more thought but perhaps I will do that holistically when I have finished the arc. Perhaps I'm reading too far into this or in the wrong direction, but dang did I love it.
