This manga was just simple little fun, nothing too crazy but not something I regret reading.

This definitely had its ups and downs. Sometimes it was really weird, especially the whole "romance between a nine and five year old" part, but at least the ending was wholesome enough. 5/10.

I too also rated this 5/10.

I felt that the romance was heavily emphasized in dialogue way too much for this kind of manga, especially when the main characters are children. The manga got lost in direction using “love” as a premise to the story when the story shouldve focused on Akira as 20 Faces. Not to mention, there were too many splash pages of just wordy dialogue, which can be an eyesore. The story also left unanswered questions, like where is Akira’s dad? Why did he leave? Why did the mothers teach Akira to become 20 faces? And why did “Santa” not reveal that he is actually Akira’s dad?

Even though Akira’s uncle was portrayed as a father figure, it was assumed HE was the actual father just from the dialogue alone. I’m wondering if this is what Clamp tried to insinuate but wanted a different character last minute.

Either way, this series was way too wordy in dialogue for a childrens manga, and mature at that. Not that love is a bad thing to talk about, but how it was portrayed in this manga was a lot for a 5 and 9 year old.

In Volume 5 of “Clamp No Kiseki” where Clamp had their interview about Man of Many Faces, they did say that bringing Utako in as a character changed the entire dialogue, meaning, the whole “love” plot was not in the original story. Ohkawa mentioned that there were many ideas that they created for a “phantom Theif” plot and it was finalized until Utako was added in as a character. Utako literally ruined what could’ve been for this short series 😅
