THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Slightly different genre in this one, it felt more like a Japanese folk tale with a small horror element. Then again, most folk tales originally are pretty horrible.

Admittedly, it's been a while but I remember this episode as being decent. Seems like there are lots of characters in Galaxy Express 999 who want to publish their own manga or create animated features which is kind of interesting given... well, Matsumoto!

A very lovely yet very sad episode with a tragic backstory of a mangaka :/ Well let's see what's next.

I can hear footsteps coming up behind me again/
Oyashiro-sama is stalking!
Curses, disappearances, sacrifices, torture/
demoning-away, sneak-eating

this village even looks like Shirakawa-go / Hinamizawa

I like Japanese ghost girls so I liked this episode, though it seems like another episode of an anime that is anti-suicide propaganda lol
Don't kill yourselves, kids

Yayoi's unfulfilled dream is an example of the many unfulfilled dreams of writers who fail to get their work published. Like Flyer, Yayoi inspires Tetsurou to see his friends happy with what they have produced. I hope Tetsurou will be able to publish the project as a tribute to Yayoi.

The ghost of that girl really meant something to Tetsurou.

He'll do what he can to get that manga published. Yayoi will be able to rest knowing that.

I watched about the first half of the series before taking a break for a while, planning to continue watching more in the future. When Matsumoto died a year ago during my break, I decided to watch an episode that night in his honor. I picked up from where I left off and it just happened to be this episode. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit it, but I cried. Just seeing the story of a manga artist whose work was never appreciated and how her spirit was troubled after her death was particularly sad on the night of Matsumoto's death. I know there are real people who lived and died and created things that have never been appreciated, but at the same time it was encouraging to me to consider Matsumoto and how he was able to find success and share his art with the world on such a large scale.
