THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
So Xanadu is finally created, the tomogaras make their mass exit and Yuji has finally separated from the Snake. Engage Link's plans are revealed, and poor poor Kamshin ;_; you will be missed.
Next week is the finale, I am going to miss this series a lot ;_;

So, the plan is finally executed. The tomogaras all went into the world, leaving Yuji (who had separeted from the snake) and Sydonay left to possibly fight(?)

Kamshin is gone... That was a very very touching moment, I almost cried a little during that, I really liked that guy.

So... what will the final bring? I'm sad to see the series end but I can't wait to see what'll happen. I'm going to miss this series very very much.

This was the worst anime for the Winter season!
They added too many new characters for my to digest. After introduced a couple of new ones, we meet other new characters. And their attitudes were very horrible. "kill the tomoguze". The "four gods of earth" seem to have a liking to slaughter them. The screen time for the original main characters was not enough.

Also, this season makes the "evil guys" more sympathetic. All those important generals died. While a measle one new character, and one important character(the rock controller with big rod on his back) died.
Really, when I saw the bus "going off the cliff" it made me laught a lot. Then I got really depressed when I learned they survived it.

Where and when was the bus dude introduced to the season? And how about that cowboy and girl flying on that light thingy come from? Why did they become important characters?

As a last season, I would expect to have the anime be about back to the old main characters, and not have the last 5 episodes be about side- characters.

I gotta give you that confuser, Shana 3 felt the inferior season of the entire 3 and the OVAs. The main characters that we always cared about, Shana, Yuuji, Yoshida and all the others didn't get enough screen time, instead, we are put with characters we don't know nor we care like the nun or all those flame hazes.

The 4 gods were also a disappointment. It seems their only purpose was to kill tomogara which was quite annoying. I hope they die in the next episode by Yuuji.

And the bus, it still makes me WTF?; it was completely out of place when Pheles and Johan appeared and then they ran with Yoshida.

Overall, this is the only season that felt like a big disappointment for me. Which is sad for a series finale.

You do realize that your entire argument for not liking it is based on your simple lack of intellectual ability to keep up right? or am i wrong? you lose track of names and people and can't follow the story; granted i will give you the fact that's it a lot of characters but if you pay attention you would see that plenty understand the story just fine; you just don't put the effort to.

They had a lot to cover so it turned out this way; and in all honesty its a lot better then what ZnTF did which also had a lot to cover but instead of doing this screwed over the story line (not to mention there season was too short to begin with); aside from all that if you are going to dislike something but all means do so; its your opinion that you are entitled to, but you should give better reasons then "i don't understand" or "i can't keep up"; I also really dislike the four "gods" but every show has crap characters; if you let a few characters bring down a show then i don't know how you watch anime; especially since they aren't even main characters.

I am sorry for not quoting, but if I did the message would be really big.

I totally agree with what InfiniteDestiny said. I see all the people complaining about how this season turned out. I was shocked to see Yuji on the bad side at first - I was spoiled by the novels before season 3 being aired - but once I knew the story and it's details, which are infinite and not portrayed in season I and II, my point of view is very different from most of the fans. This season's events are actually very predictable: Yuji's will to change, his urge to protect everyone, Shana's personal confusion, Bal Masque's plans, Yuji's first encounter with Lamies, and the list goes on and on.
It is natural to be acquainted to some many new Flame Hazes and characters only now, because it's the first world wide battle portrayed in the anime (the novels are much much much better in that way). J. C. Staff actually made a great job with SnS III.

As for my opinion, this season is a masterpiece. For those who don't understand a lot of things about the story, I advise to read the few novels that are translated, instead of speaking ill of the story at first sight: your point of view will change, I assure you. The plot is actually much deeper that what meets the eye, and the details about the first Enpatsu, the first great war and other events are really important to understand how we've got to this season's events.

But we can't blame them. Blame J.C. Staff for wasting episodes in S1 and S2 for fillers and anime originals...

That was a fantastic episode. So Xanadu was finally created with the no eating humans law still intact. The SoF could have over wrote the law but he allows it because it was everyone's wish. The third god made an unexpected appearance, making the announcement the Engage Link (Pheles & Johan) created a baby. It was sad to see Khamsin pass away this episode. I think it was fitting that Kazumi was last person he saw since she was first person he met in Misaki.

A really great episode; only one more left... I'm really going to miss Shana, people have criticized this season left and right but i can honestly say that if we get a Yuji x Shana ending next episode after they settle their final "fight" i will be satisfied; After all war is usually resolved by compromise; and in the end that is all it was; a compromise both sides could accept; it could be argued why they simply didn't do this sooner, and that argument may hold merit but at the same time people aren't so simple; such is their nature; if things could be broken down so simply then we wouldn't have wars in the first place. Looking forward to the end; i do have a few things that this has left me to wonder about but I'll save them for when its over because they may very well be answered next episode.

Ummmm....What?....Any anime with a ton of characters is a huge bonus imo.....Even if there isn't enough time to explain all of them it's still pretty amazing, it makes the anime seem a lot bigger.

Couldn't they do it the old-fashioned way, it would seem to be more fun?

So now the problem becomes what do all the flame haze do now that their reason for fighting has gone? I guess we'll get an answer next week, plus the Yuji x Shana ending (it would be a shock if we don't). I'd also like to see some of the human characters reappear.

maybe they could do it but can't make a child because Pheles is a Tomogara..

anyway, a superb final chapter and next week, we still have an epilogue.. the biggest problem of this show really has been the fact that the previous seasons were wasted.. i don't mind having too many side characters with little characterization because the roles that these characters do are important and it means that III focuses more on the plot and how their world works, something i was attracted to back at I and something they wasted on II.. it's too bad there are many details to be missed due to how J.C. Staff handled the entire series as a whole.. i am now compelled to read the novels in the future, though..

Couldn't agree more. I remember the first time i ever watched SNS, back when i would watch anime in dubbed only, i saw the entire series uploaded on youtube, didn't think it would be that great since that was the first i've ever heard of it, but i gave it a try.....I absolutely fell in love with the series, the first theme song was amazing, on par with Angel Beat's Opening.

Now i watched both subbed and dubbed, and i've seen all Seasons of SNS and i have to say that this season has got to be the best of all the seasons, how people can dislike it, i don't know......It delivers on most departments. I will admit that they did play the "vague information" card a little too much, but it seems everything has been touched upon, except everything between Shana and Yuji, but it seems that'll be resolved next episode. I can say this with full confidence....Next week cannot come quick enough....It's going to be a slow week =P.

A good ending to the war. A win-win situation where Tomogara were granted the new world and "no-eating-human" rule was imposed to the new world.

The bad thing is the preview for the next episode. Why the fuck Yuji and Shana has to fight now. Everyone's goals are accomplished. I guess a shit ending awaits.

Probably one of the few episodes this season I truly enjoyed but something still irked me. Specifically, why did none of the Flame Hazes who knew Yuuji commented on the fact that he was ready and willing to use every single Torch currently in existence in order to finish Xanadu? I'm sure at least Shana would have realized the inconsistency between the Sakai Yuuji that wasn't willing to see Torches used even for the most pedestrian of Unrestricted Spells and the Sakai Yuuji that sacrificed ALL the Torches to create Xanadu.

There's too much battle and too little explanation. If it's possible for Tomogara to survive in Xanadu without consuming humans, why didn't Yuji/Snake design it this way from the beginning? It's described as a world "overflowing with the Power of Existence", so why being so eager about eating people? Are they tasty or what?

I really can't believe the final episode of Shakugan no Shana is going to end in a Yuuji VS Shana situation. You could never guess from the first 2 seasons that they would end up fighting each other. I just hope Shana does not end up killing Yuuji in the fight. I really don't know how they are going to end this in the final mins of the next episode.

Novels list Yuji as alive.....Soooo i doubt they're going to end up killing him off =P, plus Shana hasn't been fighting to kill Yuji, from episode 13 or 14? She even said that if she was going to have to fight him, that she wouldn't kill him soooo, we'll just have to see what new revelations the next episode brings. Sucks to see the series end =/.....I'm glad we got the chance to have a new season, and more than likely i'll be re-watching the season from beginning to end after this.

I enjoy this series and I like it more then two previous ones but I am confused (I didn't read a single novel). I might be missing some very important facts or just not keep up with a complex story (as I have a busy life and stuff to do etc):

1. Who were the bus people? How come they know Khamsin, Pheles, Johann?

2. I thought Bal Masque had all important members but suddenly there were some random demons there like the green elephant. What's this all about?

3. What did the 4 gods tried to do or achieve anyway?

4. So... Yuji and tomogaras did their objective. They made Xanadu, ran away from this world, all cool. Then... why did the Flame Hazes wanted to stop them anyway again? It was a perfect way to solve every problem for both sides.

5. What is the thingy Yoshida got from Pheles and Johann?

6. Where's the Reiji Maigo? Not in Yuji, right? Doesn't that mean Yuji should die?

7. Why for two seasons Yuji was near a random main hero but SUDDENLY at season three he devised a strategy so unexpected, hard to imagine and accomplish? And how did he merge with the God in the first place?

Can a fan answer me those? I'm well aware I might've missed some stuff in the actual show simply by forgetting

1.Hyakki Yakou -- 3 tomogaras. They made appearance in novels, that was omitted in anime.
2. Bal Masque in fact is quite huge organization, we just don't see all the members
3. Episode 21
4. Flame Hazes tried to enforce a law to prevent consummation of humans. Why they want it was explained in episode 15.
5. It's their "child" in a way.
6. Still in Yuji
7. Fucked up adaptations named Shakugan no Shana 1 and Shakugan no Shana 2. Thanks to J.C.Staff. About second question: part of Snake of Festival consciousness was in Reiji Maigo (thanks to Sabrac). In novels signs of it showed here and there, but it was omitted in anime completely (again thanks to J.C.Staff).

See Episode 16. Pheles visited them. I assumed that Pheles knew the Hyakki Yakou and explained to them the details beforehand.

Bal Masque is in fact a zoo. They have a beetle, a fish, a bird, a leopard with man's face. Why would you be surprised if a green elephant appears?

Yeah, agreed with this season being a wasted potential due to numerous details and interesting backstories cut out in the anime adaptation. That should be the purpose of Shakugan no Shana S, but it seems that they didn't utilize it well.

Did you watch the episode? The Snake tells you in the end what grants the form and the shape Xanadu will take are the wishes of the tomogara. The whole "code" and "rewriting" thing was all a decoy Yuji/Snake devised in order to buy time for all tomogaras to start to gather so he can accept their wish. Sure the snake himself could have made alterations any way he wished, but in the end the tomogaras wished for Xanadu to be created with the law that the flame hazes tried to "add" and he will never deny the wish of others.

1. Who were the bus people? How come they know Khamsin, Pheles, Johann?

Pheles came to them to ask their help in the case that she were to be summoned to Misaki City. They needed someone to take them to a safe place while their "egg" was created. Also Kamshin just decided to help them protect Yoshida who happened to be with them. Thats all there is to it.

2. I thought Bal Masque had all important members but suddenly there were some random demons there like the green elephant. What's this all about?

Mal Masque is a big organization, we dont need to know EVERY big general.

3. What did the 4 gods tried to do or achieve anyway?

Rewatch episode 21

4. So... Yuji and tomogaras did their objective. They made Xanadu, ran away from this world, all cool. Then... why did the Flame Hazes wanted to stop them anyway again? It was a perfect way to solve every problem for both sides.

Rewatch the entire damn season!

5. What is the thingy Yoshida got from Pheles and Johann?

They will answer that next episode

6. Where's the Reiji Maigo? Not in Yuji, right? Doesn't that mean Yuji should die?

I have no idea why you would even think that.

Smoku said:

7. Why for two seasons Yuji was near a random main hero but SUDDENLY at season three he devised a strategy so unexpected, hard to imagine and accomplish? And how did he merge with the God in the first place?

Yuji was always a smart kid when it comes to coming up with plans, that hasnt changed here (although in the novels it was a lot more noticeable). The snake was always inside the reiji maigo, why did you think Bal Masque wanted it so badly in the first place?

The answer was in this episode. Progeny=offspring. New form of life. Heir of the two worlds. A new being
In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

why did none of the Flame Hazes who knew Yuuji commented on the fact that he was ready and willing to use every single Torch currently in existence in order to finish Xanadu? I'm sure at least Shana would have realized the inconsistency between the Sakai Yuuji that wasn't willing to see Torches used even for the most pedestrian of Unrestricted Spells and the Sakai Yuuji that sacrificed ALL the Torches to create Xanadu.

Its called character development. Yuji now and Yuji in S1 are not the same.
More like "no one cares anymore". Even if Yuuji changed, Shana, who remembered a Yuuji that was more naive and sincere, would have reacted to it. But she didn't. SHe didn't bat an eye at all, or make a comment. She just accepted it, as if Yuuji had been that ruthless from the very start. I know he changed, that was not my point. My point is that no one acknowledged the change.

Exacly this. I would have prefered fan service over this season.

Same characters and some of the same elements from first season were kept, but rest of it was like completely new show. I hope this ends well because the about 15-20 episodes were bad from all the 23 this far.

I hope J.C doesn't screw up Zero no Tsukaima and Shakugan no Shana endings. The heroines (aka. Small and spicy tsunderes who love the protagonist) are just too cute to deserve a bad ending.

Waiting for special episodes full of fan service!
Do you think this is a motherfucking game?
