| I have to imagine that most of the time the subbers are translating the Japanese, not the French. It wouldn't surprise me in the least for there to be somewhat large discrepancies between what is spoken in French and what is written in kanji at the bottom. The two languages are quite different after all. |

| The given translation is pretty accurate, it would rather be The Crossroads in a Foreign Labyrinth but certainly not 'meeting'. There might be more accurate words than 'crossroad' however -but then my English is not good enough to know- as the word 'croisée' is no more used nowdays in French for a crossroad (we would use 'croisement' or 'carrefour' instead), so the word sounds old and fitting with the 19h century's background. I think the OP thought of 'croiser quelqu'un' which indeed means to meet someone, usually in an unplanned meeting, but we would not use the word 'croisée' to speak about the meeting (this would be 'rencontre' as told in a previous post. Yeah French is pretty tricky so don't blame the OP. |
| It's kind of like how when an anime is Dubbed in English they redo some of the sentences and words using common English to make it flow better, but in the end most people hate it haha. |

| I'm French and most of the translations are perfectly accurate including the title ("croisée" is an old way to say "crossroad" - as used in the 19th Century, which happens to be the background of the anime -, ever heard of the sentence "à la croisée des chemins" ?). Actually, it's one of the very few instances in anime where French has been correctly translated almost constantly, along with Gankutsuou maybe. Yanoflies, you really need to hone your French skills... |
