In other words, what are some of our shared 9s to 10s ratings? So far the only agreeable Anime that many elitist share are Ghost in the Shell Monster Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen Cowboy Bebop Seirei no Moribito Rose of Versailles Because we know everything other anime on this site is garbage. |

If you're gonna be that strict than I have to disregard Seirei no Moribito, Aria and Kenshin from your list too. I wanted to be tolerant, but an eye for an eye :P. So I don't agree with Aria and Moribito because even though I find them good, they're not as super awesome elitist. And Kenshin I'll deny just to annoy you :P. And are you serious when you name the CnC Club as an argument? ^^ For Manga clearly Gantz must(!) be involved, and Berserk, Liar Game and Eden: It's an endless World. And Bebop must be on the list. From my favorite animes I believe Bebop and LOGH to be the only ones that are ultimately and objectively great. All other series are a matter of taste and if I give them a 8,9 or 10 is mostly preference, but those two series really ARE 10's :P. /fanboymode |

Oh, and Mobile Suit Gundam. Whether we like it or not, at least any elitist worth his salt respect it for being so iconic and influential. Plus everyone loves Char (I can't hear you, CCA never happened LALALA) and ACGUY. |

I'll give you the influence part, but besides that I wasn't impressed with Mobile Suit Gundam. Char was okay though, as were some of the episodes. But for someone like me who doesn't like mecha, and especially mecha fights, it wasn't too enjoyable. But we could include it, I won't object. |

koreye said: BTW kaiserpingvin doesnt like bebop :P hell, I think you'll have a really hard time coming up with a list that everyone agrees with. Well I loathe it, but it's competently made in everything but story. Sato Dai is weird, I don't get how he can write shite like Ergo Proxy and Bebop and then, suddenly, SAC. I guess with good material to adapt he has the sense to avoid injecting any of his own tripe ideas. Confucius said: Berserk, ..., 20th Century Boys Berserk is the Rocky Horror Picture Show of manga. It's fun because it's cheesy and crazy. It's not actually good except a few volumes between Golden Arc and now, and the art. 20th Century Boys is a string of cool ideas which sadly do not have any connexions. It does not have the coherency of Monster or the same fun issues to ponder. All it has is GUUUTALALA SUUDALALA and frustrating fucking around with the audience. (I don't care who Friend is, for no matter who he'd turn out to be, it'd be uninteresting and not change anything. That turned out to be the point, but if it was, why not show us instead of those forty fucking pointless cliffhangers which did not actually leave you at the cliff hanging, but pointed at the cliff and said, "if we'd be closer we could be hanging off that now!") I still watched the movies like thrice, I have no idea why. I submit Hiroki Endo's short stories, The World Is Mine and Witches as actual elitist manga. If I incensed someone, that means I win at elitism. |

Anything by Naoki Urasawa basically. The 20th Century Boys movies were a strange experience for me. I bought them all, the first one twice and adored them. Hell, I even have a movie poster above my monitor. But at the same time I think they're terrible. My normalfag friends love them though. They started reading the manga and everything, though they won't try anything else. Paprika, Jin Roh, Grave of the Fireflies, Haibane Renmei, Serial Experiments Lain and Planetes are pretty high rated too. Some newer stuff that I enjoyed were Sora No Woto, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and Eden of the East but I don't think they're as universally regarded as great. |

@Kaiserpingvin: Bebop wasn't supposed to have a storyline, it's the same as criticizing Mushishi for no coherent story ^^. I definitely agree on Hiroki Endo's short stories. Great literature. @alicedragon: Eden of the East was pretty nice, but the movies completely ruined it and as the movies were planned from the beginning I can't help but see the show in a different, worse light than before :/ Most of the others I find to be good, but not that exceptional (except Planetes), but I wouldnt mind adding them. Though I think from Satoshi Kons movies Paprika is not the best. |

Which I can't deny.@Kaiserpingvin: Bebop wasn't supposed to have a storyline, it's the same as criticizing Mushishi for no coherent story ^^. I definitely agree with 20CB though. It's really great at building up a mystery and pushing cliffhangers left and right, but there's just too much of it, and the ending isn't anywhere near good enough to wrap it all up convincingly. It's sort of like getting pumped up for a Christmas present and having a item from your wish list crossed off one by one until only the top wish remains, only to find out it's a pair of socks. Monster did pretty much the same recipe but managed to turn out a far better result in the end. koreye said: I dunno, voting on lists sounds a bit conformist and plebeian, don't you think? how about we make a list, maybe set up some rules and vote on it? So we could just give a certain number of series that each person can add (like 5 or so) and no one is allowed to question those series, not even other members of the club. And I haven't seen/read 20CB, but I doubt the ending can be more disappointing than the ending of Monster :/ And I agree on the cliché stories (partly) in Bebop, but that's just another thing I loved about it. It took clichéd story ideas and executed them so amazingly that I'd call it reinventing them. |

bebop, near perfection in all depts (especially direction), except for inconsistent quality of story in episodes (a few were even mediocre, i dare say), and also the fact that it did not even utilize half of its potential. But I mean that in a good way. It has one of the absolute best concepts in anime and could have done much more with it. I wouldn't exactly call the stories "cliched" because i think that was a conscious quality of the series. I think it was more of a result of how it brought in all these conventions from certain parts of different pop-cultures and pulp-fiction. And I agree with HIgashi, that was executed well. |

1. Ghost in the shell. I mean all the anime. 2. Cowboy bebop. 3. Kino no tabi - this is it. Forget all the superficail "deep" anime people seem to call "classic masterpieces" (not taking any names), this is the real deal. This is how philosophical ideas should be conveyed. 4. Pom Poko. If there is an elitist Ghibli movie, it would be either this or Only yesterday. 5. Monster. Maybe rurouni kenshin OVA. I'd also support master keaton although i've only seen 4 eps and some bits and pieces from when my brother was watching it. Its the kind of intelligent show none of the mainstream noobs will ever appreciate. |

@koreye Universum where humans build mechs (not mecha - mechs: 20-100 ton, 2-4 legs, tons of armor and guns [BIG guns], their speed varies from like ~20 - over 100 km/h), have ftl ships and live in several "great houses" Steiner, Davion, Kurita, Marik, Liao (each of them is a fkn EMPIRE), there's our Terra... And there's neverending conflict. And treachery is used just as many times as military. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battletech BTW - Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries - game based on BT universe - can be downloaded FOR FREE from MekTek - http://www.mektek.net/ And this is not a piracy! MekTek got blessing from Microsof/FASA to release it! :D ...oh - and there's incoming Mechwarrior Online game. The word is - it'll be F2P! Huzzah! Too bad BT anime was CRAP :| |
