Seriously, they take bad stuff that happens to kids a little too lightly. Being locked up unable to get out or even talk to your parents? WTF?

Not sure if I should go on watching it as I don't do depressing anime (after elfen lied reduced me to a nervous wreck for weeks). Can someone PM me the ending? Thx

EDIT: All right I will need the summary. Watched bits of the last ep just to get a heads up and it doesn't look like it's going to end well. Deleting all this off my hard disk and shredding the files now. I'm fine with depressing movies, just not anime.

I believe this belongs in the anime subsection, and then "Gakuen Alice" and not in General discussion. That aside, I stopped watching it I just found it got really boring. I got about halfway through, I'm not sure what the depressing part was.

Ah all right how could I have missed such a huge section. sorry my bad, never been here for ages (exams and stuff).

As for the depression part, well the routine and taken for granted attitude towards forcibly snatching a child and locking it up struck a chord. Maybe just MY weak spot - one of the few things in anime that can make me baww.

I actually came to this forum exactly to write a thread "Is this really a comedy? It looks more like a depressing drama to me" - and I'm at episode 12 by now.

Unlike the OP, though, I'm OK with depressing stuff; but only if there is a memorable ending. Not necessarily happy, but memorable. However, the 'comedy' genre casts doubt that this would be the case. So - can somebody tell me if the ending is memorable?

The depressing part comes later in the manga but the anime itself wasn't really depressing.

I completely agree I think it's completely against human rights to take a child away from their family, I mean friends are good but nothing can replace family so how can Mikan and her friends be so content with just friends?! I just don't get it! Not to mention the star rankings I mean I can understand giving good, well behaved students privileges but you can't do things like that to no-stars, I mean most children would have good meals, a good home and everything when living with their family so how can the academy take children away from their families and on top of that expect them to be like good little dogs or else they won't get basic stuff like a nice room and food and allowance which they would've gotten if it weren't for the academy in the first place?! Sorry it just really got to me, that academy deserves to either change or disappear.
