THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- We don't need to spoiler a lot about this film. It's just pure fanservice of Pre Cure. :D Look when you saw all the precure, for the "boobies", i prefer the 5th season. Yes, they look like Teenagers. *-) But anyways, that's is a good movie for fanservice. Some studio need to do that. |

Another fun All Star movie and I just watched the first one 2 days ago. This time around we had just a little more interaction between the girls and the return of some favorite villains (Kintolesky, Ms. nosy-tare and Uragonos). The movie has kind of spoiled Fresh for me (Cure Passion). One of my favorite part of the movie were these shots trying to spot all the side characters: Funny that this picture has three addition Precures (one that is new since yesterday) |

I hated how Tsubomi and Erika like sucked until the final moments of the movie. However, I did like that they finally put Michiru and Kaoru even if they did not get to fight at all, probably because they would destroy the bad guys. All the cg was meh also. |

A few years back I watched this movie after having only seen Heartcatch, so a lot of things like the side-characters and every Cure except Tsubomi and Erika meant nothing to me. As of rewatching this I have seen many more Precure seasons (most of which take place after this one) and I have a lot more to appreciate this time around, like the aforementioned side characters and the fact that Milk is one of the mascots and a Cure at the same time. After seeing the New-Stage movies and how they handle the characters getting voice lines and the stories, I love this one even more. The smaller cast is easier to manage and they have so many adorable interactions together. And of course each one gets plenty of dialog. When I first watched it I wasn't too thrilled with the amount of time Tsubomi and Erika spend helplessly running around, but the second time around it wasn't a big deal at all. I really liked how they were the ones who ignited hope during the darkest hour after not being as strong and capable as the others for most of the movie. It was like their own little coming of age story. And that ending? The rainbow formation thing? Hands down the most beautiful thing I've seen in a Magical Girl work. Just... amazing. If there's one thing I could criticize the movie about it's that it uses conspicuous CG in places that looks kind of silly, but it's not enough to affect my score in any way. The rest of it is still gorgeous. |

I haven't seen Heartcatch yet but I really enjoyed this movie. The CG is conspicuous but I got used to it. |

How was Bottom yelling at the Precures while also puking dark energy blasts during the final attack? Anyways, I didn't particularly enjoy this second All Stars DX film for how chaotic and disorderly it felt. I at least enjoyed seeing all the characters back together from across the franchise, and I liked the concept of pulling back all the defeated enemies as an additional callback to each of their shows. However, it's been a while since I started watching Precure, and I spent more time trying to remember all the Precures, all their fairies, and all their respective villains than actually watching the fights and interactions. The constant screaming, the quick one liners, and the overly excited camera sweeping across battlefields made it difficult to keep track of what was going on. The focus on all the main reds made me realize they were near carbon copies of each other. I'm sure it was a creative decision to make them all amicable, but since I've nearly forgotten all their unique character traits, I feel bad for not being able to discern them as well as I'd like. I was hoping to see different characters from different groups interact more, but they were mainly segregated into their circles, leaving only the main reds to give one liners to each other. Despite being an all stars film, they didn't really do that much together. It was more of a relay of different Precure groups passing the Heartcatch duo to each other. While the first All Stars DX film focused on introducing and promoting the Fresh Precure crew, this film promoted Heartcatch while the Fresh Precure crew served as the main guiding senpai Precures, so to speak. I'm glad that Cure Passion is finally in the mix, but I disliked that Michiru and Kaoru of Splash Star still got sidelined. Then again, there's so many Precures on screen that it's hard enough to give everyone attention. The clashing art styles can really be felt here. I suppose the film rehashed the transformation stock footage for Futari wa and Splash Star as a callback, but I didn't see any effort to update their visual quality. I believe Futari wa Precure was cel animation? I'm not entirely sure, but the art was visibly more grainy than the more current Precure transformation scenes. After just coming off of Heartcatch Precure, it's jarring to see Tsubomi and Erika presented in a different art and animation style. The art and animation in Heartcatch is much more sharper, unreliant on CG, and frequently goes super deformed without sacrificing clarity. I can actually tell what's going on during action scenes, despite explosions and characters dashing around. Additionally, a few things irked me in particular. The fairies got dropped into the ground after Bottom stole the Rainbow Jewel, yet I think half the fairies could fly, including Coffret and Chypre whom the camera specifically focused on as they fell helplessly. There was also a scene near the end with the crowd of people watching the fairies encircle the park while raining magical light. During a crowd shot, Itsuki and Yuri could be seen on the right looking on. I don't mind Itsuki being present as much, but Yuri shouldn't have been just standing around for reasons later explained in Heartcatch. It feels like the film's creators were given brief summaries of all the Precure titles and, in their best efforts, tried to cram as many cameos as they could. I'm guessing this film was just made as a non-canon series wide collaboration to just have fun watching all the Precures team up. Still, it's weird seeing all these civilians completely okay with the existence of fairies, going so far as to interact with them casually. Different Precure titles handled the existence of magic differently, so it's strange seeing the film attempting to coalesce all these canons together. Regarding the Rainbow Jewel, how many critically important artifacts exist in the Precure franchise that keep the Earth functioning? It seems like for every Precure entry, as well as some films, there's a new artifact introduced, and if any one of those artifacts gets corrupted or destroyed, the Earth could get annihilated. There's nothing particularly wrong with this, but I just find it convenient that each Precure group has something they need to guard, and inconvenient that there's so many ways to destroy the Earth. I like Precure as a franchise, and I appreciate the film's ambitions, but I think it tried to do far too much without enough time. There were some nice moments of art and animation, with my favorite being the moment immediately after Bottom took over the park. The camera zooming over the creepy conglomeration of villains, then snaking through the corrupted park reminded me of a mix of the Beetlejuice and Nightmare Before Christmas openings. However, with the limited interactions, the confusing fight scenes, the oversaturation of characters, and the awkward attempt to consolidate all the clashing art and animation styles, I can't say I really enjoyed this overall. |

Honestly it was really jarring how many characters got shafted this movie. I guess that's just the nature of having a crossover film between five series with seventeen main characters, but when I saw my best girl Mai in the ending and realized she pretty much did nothing, the disappointment hit me all at once. Imo the best parts of the movie were the early scenes that only featured the Fresh Precure and Heartcatch Precure crews. I don't know what the other Precure crossover movies are like, but I'm really hoping that some of them only involve two or three groups at a time, or that they'll consider making movies like that in the future if they don't already exist. At least I got to see Kaoru, Michiru, Bunbee, and Northa, lol Hopefully Chypre and Coffret will remember they can fly by the time the Heartcatch movie happens |
