| Its hard to say because L was really smart, and thought on the same lines as Light but Near was also smart and he was the one that actually caught Light. But L and Near are quite a like so I really cant choose. |

| Pfft, L, of course. A dur dur. Of course, I love Near with all my heart as well. Near's just too adorable and smart NOT to be loved. L had a lot more good character development, which I wish Near had gotten the opportunity to have too. Shoulda spent more time on that kid. But, yeah. | Better as who? So, then decidedly hard question. L was excellent detective, he made thorough study every case, intelligent and witty. Unfortunately Light was successful him cheat. Feelings win and Ruuzaki run into trouble. Yeah, meeting of world and peoples turned out to be equally important, how intellectual values. I think that Near in end of series is still too young to can affirm this (age has here big meaning - several years of experience more a lot of change. He has however this feature, it lacked which genius - capture, sanity and distance ofc. In spite of his age he seems to be more "psychical mature" than L. Erm... I mean that L would be this however. (sorry for my english D:) |

And I'm not saying this because I don't like Light, I am saying it because the way Light "won" over L was not intellectually or by outsmarting L. It was cheating. Anyways, I can't decide. I suppose you could say L because Near always takes time to think "what would L do?", but I still think that Near is approaching L's level of genius. In time, he could be just as good as L, maybe better. And I like Near's clothes. XD |

| Cheating is a skill. Don't forget. Overall L is more intelligent. While Near lacks experience, and due to his limited contact with many aspects of life some of his insights seems bit weak. But his logical intelligence makes up for that. I don't know about during the "one shot- deathnote" but during the deathnote series, L was the superior one. |
