Awww, Kuribo ... so cute! Kaiba, you underestimate the wonderful Kuribo ... Kuribo love! Kuribo army love! :D
That totally wasn't five steps ... you tricky cheater, Kaiba!
Ugh, Anzu, you are so freaking annoying. GTFO please! Who even "runs" like that anyway?! You're even dueling in the next episode ... ugh ...
WTF does "mou hitori no" mean anyway?! Way to translate, subbers
Even so, that's my favourite duel so far, looking forward to the next one because of Mai of course ...!

Kaiba bluffing to jump, if he did lose and jumped there'd be absolutely no chance of saving his brother ...
Yugi ...

I know a lot of people joke about Kaiba willing to literally kill himself over a children's card game but that's ignoring the impact this duel had. Kaiba was desperate the dude was willing to place his life on the line for the brother, it was an all or nothing type thing. This is probably my favorite episode so far, it showed Kaiba's determination, as well as a good bit of drama with Yugi and his other self.

Oh boy what a dual, can't actually believe Yugi lost by stopping his attack... pretty solid episode in general though!

Found that daydream sequence by Seto to be heart-aching, to see his younger self run after his younger brother only to vanish.

Yugi braking down in tears after the realization that his other self would have easily accepted to kill someone just to win was really something. Great episode all and all. The darkest so far.

Anzu was also great here.

There's so much to unpack here. I love how they showed us Kaiba's nightmare, his heart is literally Mokuba. Anzu said he doesn't have one, but he does, it's currently in the hands of some creep. We got to see how far he'd go for his little brother and understood the extent of his love.

And Yugi's heart? Like Anzu said, if he doesn't have his grandpa, he has his friends. I don't think what Kaiba did was too ridiculous.. he's thinking he's not only going to lose his brother, but their trust/bond with one another (since fantasy!Mokuba was vocal about Kaiba not protecting him 'like he always did'). Isn't that all he has?

Honestly everyone's struggles showcased both their similarities and differences. Yugi's "other self" DID struggle with a decision, but I guess he's more similar to Kaiba than we thought. Meanwhile, the detransformation scene with Yugi falling to his knees was excellent. His resolve to win didn't cloud who he really is, which is a kind & caring person. He almost lost himself there.

I was screaming for Anzu/the rest of them to run the OTHER way and maybe dogpile Kaiba lol

Kaiba played a dangerous gamble but won, thanks to the gentle Yugi stopping his other self from going all the way. And Kaiba wasn't even fazed by all of this, nah he just mocked him more, wow.

Kaiba's braking of self as he couldn't save his little brother was really disturbing tho.

Shit went down and I gotta say it's way more intense than I can recall. Might be due to the japanese dub, tho.

Golly, I always love it when this song plays! Washu-kami-sama bless that fella on the guitar.

I can understand Kaiba's feelings here. He needed to win and would at all costs. If he lost, he wouldn't have been able to duel Pegasus and save Mokuba. And he'd rather die than not see his brother again.

But Yugi had to win because he has to get his grandpa's soul back. He did the right thing in the end though

Tbh I'm not sure if Kaiba would have fallen considering that he seemed smart enough to find another way to rescue Mokuba even if he'd lost the duel. I think that if I'd been in Yugi's shoes, I would've gone through with the attack and won the duel.

My guts tell me that Seto will win this battle since his brother is kidnapped but I don't think he would be so desperate as to end his life if he lost this one....

Kaiba pulled a pretty dick move to win this battle. Either he wins or he kills himself making Yugi feel responsible for it. What a rat.

Good episode because it was the clímax and even had a plot twist when Yugi lost. Unexpected and very dramatic.

How did neither of these absolute cabbages just come up with the idea of saying: "Hey, we both hate Pegasus and have to save a family member from his clutches. How about we just call this a draw so we can both enter the castle and beat the tar out of him?"
