Damn, what a shit ending...but realistic i guess...
But on the other hand, why would he betray her like that? Have a child with a woman you don't love...He understood the reason why she left, ah well.

Not only that, but I doubt she's having a great life- probably stuck with that wife beater...

haha yes what a stupid way to end it...there were alotta kinks with the plot outline so i was hoping the author could do the least of showing us a beautiful reunion between the two.

Ok if you don't want to listen to me ranting skip the next paragraph, ok it's not really a paragraph but I couldn't think of what else to call it.

I hated that ending I cried more than I have for anything so far...dammit I hate how he just married some other woman...god dammit! and since the time Haruka decided to go on a date with Shintarou I felt horrible because she was probably doing this out of kindness even though she still loved Yasujiro!! God dammit why didn't the author put more about what she was actually feeling! AAAGGGGGHH And, I only started reading this because of hen to............

Okay sorry about that. The ending was just completely opposite of what I was hoping for since the beginning and the author left out alot of details on Haruka's side. Like did she get over Yasujiro? Did she fall in love with Shintarou? Was she doing it out of motherly love for Shintarou who she considered a son? And, I didn't really like how forced their relationship looked. And, most of all Haruka was left again. Now whether she married that abusive guy or not she still got the worst part. oh and I hate what Shintarou became after Haruka left...crap... I am crying again.

I think the ending wasn't that bad. Come on, it's possible to love more than one woman in your life. Shintarou understood there's no way for Haruka and him to be together so he managed to move on and start a normal life. He still has feelings for Haruka in the end, but I think he loves her like a child loves his mother (he even told his wife about Haruka).
I don't like open endings, so I was pleased with the way Oku finished Me teru. You see what happens with Shintarou in the future, that's what counts for me. I'm glad it didn't end like the NHK manga.

This manga had so much potential to be really good but as it went on it just went downhill...Still a good read overall but like others said, I don't like how he left out so much detail. The ending was one of the worst endings ever...It just didn't feel right at all. However, I think it did get the message across about how people can change. There was so much questions left unanswered and I usually like open ended stuff...but this one killed me =(...just wished it ended better/had more details. Ok I am not making any sense anymore so bye :D.

Indeed, and at some points, perhaps their sexual liaison makes sense as she was sort of "making a man" of him and assuaging those adult feelings they had for one another, but the whole message just seems weird and Freudian. He went from sexualising this woman to seeing her as his mother...? Okay, maybe that's acceptable, but there was absolutely no indication that perhaps his feelings for her were of that nature. Nor did we see him grow in understanding to see what she really meant to him in the end of it all.

Same here--I thought it had a brilliant setup and I kept thinking, "Wouldn't this be nice if it were made into an anime?" until the second volume when I thought, "Okay... nobody would ever want to watch this now." It's not the sudden sex--that I can live with--but it's the complete assault on the storyline and the characters that took place that's unacceptable and unreadable.

Also, given the time that passed, six years, right? Am I to believe, logically, that a failure at life like Shintarou successfully assimilated himself into society fast enough to have both a wife, a job and a possibly 3 to 5-year-old daughter?? That's fast! Considering especially how he spent 15 years of his life destroying his connections with human beings.

Very good manga with a crap denouement and a wtf, really? ending.

As a final thought, that dog looks pretty healthy and chipper for being more than six years old.

A hikikomori wouldn't read this manga since it's about them giving up their lifestyle, which, if you bothered to even know, they are adamant about not doing.

It's not right to say that some people's social fears are pathetic. It's a real problem. Would you watch someone who is suffering from clinical depression and call them "pathetic"?

the ending was great. it was realistic and not too dramatic. after all it is not a shounen/shoujo manga.

In my opinion, the ending was totally not satisfying. It came off as rushed and lame to me.

I would have like to see the two of them together at the end but it wasnt really all that clear how she thought of him. I did feel like their relationship was forced and I wondered wether she was just doing it to heal him. What was with the last dinner why did it show the bowl? and what did he mean by was that a message?

Perhaps how she recoiled away when she saw his thing and said I cant do it and told him at first that he couldnt "eat her" was suppost to be a sign that she was forcing herself to do it. The fact that she washed his pants was suppost to show a motherly responsability I dont know. Did she mean what she said about she would like him if he became more caring or was that just another ploy?

The story sort of winded in on itself, making it hard to follow. Her feelings didnt come across very clearly. Was that diary entry to show that she thought of him as his mother and the one after showing a feeling of guilt of what she was planning to do. Were her tears of joy at the end?

Given time and the fact that you dont see the other person I think most people would move on. His feelings for her were probably not real, she was probably just a "host" as it said. She was the first female he had seen in 15 years so it was natural to find himself attracted to her. The flashes of his fathers face were signs of guilt on his behalf i think.

The more that I think about it the more I feel that his feelings were false and that she was forcing herself in order to heal him. I think the councilor ment to use the GF angle to heal him but he wouldnt accept her. She saw that he "liked" his mother and suggested that angle to his mother but told her to consider her future before doing it. That would explain why she hung around for a while afterwards, giving advise and support. It would also tie in with the councilor's comment about not having time and having to speed things up. Later his mother sat there pondering over the not "having time".

The diary entry seemed to confirm that she saw him as a son (and his father as a husband) and that she felt guilty by what she was doing. Im pretty sure that his father was the only one she loved romantically, she kept looking at his shrine in the last few chapters. The manga title translates out to 'maternal feelings' which is the moverly love feeling.

In the end he read the diary and discovered her true feelings and motivation. With time he came to an understanding of how he truely felt(perhaps relised that his feelings were false and reconised the guilt of what he had done(flashing fathers face during sex)) and moved on. He could now consider her as his mother?

All that being said it was a confusing manga and I cant say I liked it due to that. What were there feelings for each other? who knows. Was that image of her crying, down cast eyes and awquard atmosphere around the house ment to show forced romance? Were her tears at the end of sorrow or joy that he had moved on? (Im thinking joy)

Personally i dont like having to think about things too much, look for meanings and having to use my imagination, I prefer to be spoon fed stuff even if the story turns out to be cliche. Having thought about this sorty and sharing my insights about it I have improved my opinion of it a little. I hope my thoughts on this manga help others to understand the story a litte better as they did for me.

After I finished reading this manga, I have to find what people have said about it. From my point of view, the ending doesn't satisfy at all. I feel so sad for this woman. I don't think this guy will find another woman, married and have kid. This type of guy will have to find the love of his life no matter where she is.

I think the best ending is he is trying to find her and get stronger until he can live by him self and protect some one like she said one day.

On the other hand, I under stand the author trying to present the love of Haruka to his father and try her best to help his kid.

However, the sex scene is kinda blow my mind. It's the best I've ever seen. I make me feel so sad when she left the next morning.

All in all, I don't think the ending is good. I want to see more of the reunion of those two.

Bro what💀💀💀
No, there's no betrayal here, he moved on in life knowing she won't come back for BOTH of gooD.
And NO, YOU STUPID, He loved the woman, he moved on from haruka and is living a normal happy life with woman who he loves now,,, didn't you read "thank you mother", that's more than enough to say ,

And no The wife beater is not the only guy in the world dude, like No need to villainize her like that, whatever she does with her life is matter not as she proved to be "mother" to shin, to help him out of hikki, and be a better person,

.how is that a shit ending??? Is your brain working properly???
