I mean to be fair, Köinzell did the best he could to infiltrate the city. Just didn't work out exactly the way he hoped for.

Not sure how I feel about Elsaria's appearance this episode. She has charisma as a leader so it's someone to watch out for. Köinzell's revenge quest continues. Just wish they made me care about his actual character more. This episode had emotions all over the place as usual.

Elsaria is an interesting character.
She most likely served as great inspiration to another Dark Fantasy manga we got an adaptation for that ended last year (Ragna Crimson's Staria Reze).
Not in all regards, even because many shared character traits in her case are brought to an over-the-top extent in Ragna Crimson, but still.

Curious to see how they will handle the rest of this arc. There's a whole lot of battle scenes incoming, and I'm hoping they saved the budget for them, since they are kind of the first glimpse in manga of

Another solidly adapted episode. Some more of the smart trimming on exposition, dialogue and recaps, getting to the point right away.
It's just unfortunate that we kinda lost some tidbits about Jullas-Abllas' sociopolitical situation, but the important ones are still discussed directly within the story.

Ichfeis introduction was handled very nicely at that. I'm looking forward to a certain scene involving him in the near future.
One change is that Köinzell didn't overhear their conversation from nearby, but well, that didn't really change the outcome lol

Also, they once again are suspisciouly omitting character arc-specific developments regarding volume 0, Rozen thinking about maybe being happy that Köinzell achieved his previous victory is connected to their relation yet to be visited by this adaptation, I'm wondering if they are planning to cover it in this season (maybe in ep 11 would be a good opportunity if the pacing keeps going the way it is currently) or leave it for when it gets a bit more relevant later on (season 2 territory).

Lastly, a nitpick I have is that we didn't have this memetic panel adapted the way I thought would be better... but it was adapted, so I digress haha

Chapters adapted are ch 39 up to the first page of 43. They seem to be in good pace to cover up to chapter 65, which is the end of the second arc.

Koinzell being interpreted as a tiki mask oni thing in a heavily propagandized play was interesting to say the least.

This shit is so ass(literally) RIP to the girl batterygrave killed. Was she even really an assassin or is he just having a schizo breakdown because of Koinzell??

Elsaria might be enough to keep me engaged with this story. She’s really pretty and I’m curious about how she went from an elector’s daughter to the marquis employ.. I really hope nothing bad happens to her.

I feel that the animation quality really took a hit in that episode. I'm curious how they're going to handle the rest of this story arc with only a few episodes left.

Also, Rozen mentioned he fought Koinzell. Did I forget that or did we skip it? I know we see them fighting in the OP, but I don't recall it happening in the actual show..

@Nionel The opening kinda "adapts vol 0" by itself. Depending on how much ground they can cover with the battle-heavy final portion of the arc, I'd argue that the time in which they will either adapt the important bits missing from Vol 0 (which were partially revisited in a couple of scenes up to this point) or not will be:

A

or

B

or

C

If not any of the alternatives, they will probably just not fully address the encounter between Aht, Köinzell and Glenn's squad (Rozen) more than they already did. which would be not ideal, but could still work, since they definitely seem to be saving certain monologues for later so far, and also saving scenes involving Glenn, which can also be inserted in a vast amount of future episodes really, so that is also fine.

Finally a pretty good episode. I am still not satisfied overall and they are kinda butchering the manga, but at least the pacing back to being okay.

Episode 8 UBEL BRAT

This story doesn't make any sense
The opening scene is some other leader in the Empire, who they're calling the "batterygrave" .... really? So the dude gets paranoid with a cute dancer and slashes her to death, and the other dude comes in and congratulates him for killing her. See how civilized they are?
Then in next scene, they're talking about how to find the "Hero killer" and conveniently he shows up and kills them in a bunch of still frames. That's the intro to this episode!

Then, Ahtt, Peepi and Altea are performing at a bar (the animation in this bit is so bad, I've seen better moves in unknown 1980s OVAs)
They perform a play act about Landgrave Shmeroagihfaihkdfkhgdaglk being killed, and of course some Honorable Imperial Soldiers object and try to harm them...
In the previous episodes, all the people were shown blubbering waterfalls of tears for the Landgrave and the "Seven Heroes" yet each time one of them is on screen, they're the most bloodthirsty, violent, unhinged, brutal assholes ever seen... yet none of these people are aware.
One of these leaders, the Batterygrave I guess, snaps his own guy's arm, and then uses the injury as a pretext to attack the Free City where they themselves rioted the previous night. They lob one boulder at the town and then threaten to invade- with one terrified guy as their excuse- once again I have to ask how is it these guys seem to have such a fabulous reputation?????? Nobody else notices how fucked up these guys are?
None of the people notice do they? No rumors make it out- despite how careless and flamboyant they always are with their violence!
Then how are rumours about what Koinzell looks like???

If the borderlands people are all refugees to these towns, and he's rumored to be one of them- why would the Demi-humans in these towns all be so enamored with the local army of goons? It's like this story was written by a 9 year old. All the baddies are irredeemable evil apes, and literally nobody apart from four people supports the 'good guy'- he STANDS ALONE.
It reeks of a bullied author (who is 9) who sees himself as done wrong by the whole world. Dumb!

Elsaria and her gang are just trouble, will Köinzell kick there butts or kill them, it's less likely that he'll kill them.

It's gonna get more tough for Köinzell as he kills more Heroes, when he's having this much of a hard time with only one down.

And the girls, they looks pretty in those dresses, totally cute! I'm sure upcoming episodes are gonna be more fun.

The mission to eliminate Koinzell gets around the remainder of the Seven Heroes, though it doesn't take him long to find Batterygrave Barestar's people trying to locate the now-called "Hero Killer".

The free city of Julias-Abllas where Altea and the others need to find ways of living, as Koinzell scouts the Batterygravate's land for intel...until the cross with the batterygrave's soldiers in the bar and one prominent figure with an intention to kill.

Seeing the Order of the Seven Spears in Elsaria Rahnclave's leadership alongside Schemle and Daliste, Rozen has no doubt to trust in them to do the job and find the aforementioned Hero-Killer. And so, it happens when they managed to locate him...what will go down?
