Because the sequel to the original manga started publishing recently and they wanted to draw attention to the series by promoting the franchise with an anime adaptation but since they did not want to invest too much money for promotion they made a deal with a third rate anime studio and this is the result.

Well I wouldn't call satelight a third rate studio, they do have some pretty good stuff so they are at least second rate (also I stopped watching at episode 2 thinking I will watch later when it finishes, did it really get that much worse?)

I’m still watching despite it being really poor quality as the story seems pretty solid. But it’s just been a slideshow really! I don’t know about the omissions and reduced adult content that manga readers are upset about, but it’s hard to watch at this point.

I just checked their previous productions. Pretty sure it’s a first rate studio.

Considering the anime's director was interviewed by ANN and said it would be better to read the manga when asked what part of the adaptation he was excited for, this is nothing more than an ad to bring more eyes to the source material and it shows.

I believe it had a good potentials story wise, but they missed it up ig. The quality is really poor, the events are kinda messed up. I think I'm gonna watch it anyway.

What you fail to understand is that when you click on a studio name MAL lists all of the anime they worked on, not just the animes they mainly animated, so even if they have a very small contribution to making an anime MAL would still list that anime related to this studio in addition to the main studio who maindy did the animation.

While calling it a third rate studio was too harsh they are are definitely not the ideal studio for animating action heavy shows.

You make a fair point. For example hellsing is the success of madhouse but also appears in satelight’s list because it did take a part in it.

However, even if you only count those on the list with satelight as the only studio mentioned, there are still some classics in the list including log horizon, white album and some macross.
