Hey guys.
I've just dicovered Blue Lock and binged it. I loved it! It was very fun to watch..... at least, the first season.

Everybody knows the animation in season 2 is atrocious, but the worst part of it, in my opinion, is how dull the characters and story felt.

Since the entire season is a normal football match, it basically lost the goal (pun intended) of the story. Blue Lock was all about a twisted selection where the only applying rule is "survival of the fittest". It was more about "adapting the concept of survival games to football" than it was about football.
And yet, season 2 is..... a very classic football match.

And that would be fine if the characters were fun. Don't get me wrong, some of them are awesome (loved Aiku!). But they aren't psychotic. And I don't know about you, but what drove me through season 1, what appealed to me the most, was how freaking psychotic this whole season was, lol.

Season 2 does have its few moments (Rin's "flow", Shidou's "ovulation goal"). But it's only once in a while, whereas Season 1 was like that from beginning to end. I mean, it starts with a freaking nation-wide kidnapping, lol!

Season 2 has nothing like Kuon's backstab, or Isagi's "I shattered all these people's dreams.... if feels good!", or Kira's apparently murderous intents.
The new characters are boring, the overall match was boring, following a single team was boring (after season 1 kept spicing things up by switching teams regularly).

I honestly don't know what to expect from season 3 and onwards. I'll likely check out the manga, but I really hope the vibes of Season 1 come back.
Everything changes. Even the happy and funny things eventually disappear. How can I still enjoy this place then?

You have to make a choice. Either you give up on your soul for the sake of science, or you give up on science to save your soul. In my case, the soul was already in pieces.

Do you understand the meaning behind Nunnaly's smile? She can't see or walk. So there are things in this world that she knows she can't do alone. Her smile... is her only way to show gratitude.

I get where you're coming from. You wanted it to stay a survival game of football like Season 1. But let's say, Isagi is the best striker Blue Lock created and all others got eliminated, then what? The goal is to win the World Cup, right? Isagi has to play in a match. It’s not like he can ignore the other 10 players on his team and play alone. Maybe he’s the best striker in the world, but 1v11 is impossible. He has to cooperate with his teammates to win.

I like to think the purpose of Blue Lock is to create a single player with godly individual skills so he can lead a comparatively weaker team to victory. Also, Isagi’s individual skills aren’t that great compared to others. The way he can win is by using them.

The egoist thing won’t work in real life. You can’t win a match if you’re focused on devouring your teammate and stealing the ball from him.

I don’t think so. That Shidou and Rin’s rage are the best moments in this season

@zero_uchiha My apologies; I shall convert that post into a review right now and join the fight xD!

@NegativeRei: You're absolutely right. I was expecting real, full matches to happen, just, much later. And much shorter ones if it was so soon.
I mean, I checked the manga chapters, apparently this single arc took 50 chapters? I can't imagine how unbearable it would be, one football match spread across almost an entire year (I assume chapters are released weekly?).
And since the only arc after that is 130 chapters long and still ongoing, I literally have cold feet for what's to come, lol. Honestly, I decided to drop it all.

I personally didn't find the story boring. the animation wasn't the best but the Las two episodes made it worth it.
comparing season 1 and 2. .season 1 is more chaotic cause every character was new to BL and they were all finding themselves, their desires and realizing how they were lacking and what they needed to get done. it was more like a survival game in season 1
season 2, things have slightly mellowed down, as each of them individually have realised what they are, what they are capable of, and what they'll do to achieve their goals. it's like, they've matured a bit.season 2 is more about the team. football 8s a team sport, it cannot sinly focus on one character or an OP character every character is different, they have their dull and sharp moments. these cluster of different people make up a team.
isagi's moments from S1 were fire but we've got to realise Isagi can't become the best striker all on his own. he needs his team. also, isagi, in himself, isn't that valuable. his values comes through other people..so the other dull characters are as much needed.
it's sport anime and as a former athlete I'll say Blue Lock doe a good job showcasing what goes on in an athlete's mind. how sometimes your selfish, sometimes, things are dull, sometimes they are intense...
If you want, you can read the manga

As a hardcore football fan, s2 was kinda better for me. In the end, football is a team game. I wouldn't like that survival game type of thing for long.

Bro why you so mad about season 2. Yes, maybe it wasn’t the best season ever created in anime history, but it it still compensated the bad start with a very good ending. So therefore it’s just average, not good, not bad. Average.

Thank you and have a nice day

@AjuroDono I'm not mad, just disappointed xD!
It's definitely not the worst out there (.... except maybe the animation). But it's a huge waste of potential. Honestly, it made me drop Blue Lock for now.

If you can't get entertained by Nagi's insane goal-scoring creativity,Shidou's jaw-dropping goals, Aiku's defending,Isagi's clutch moment, and all the hype each ep... maybe Blue Lock isn't for you because this arc is considered the peak of this series. Unfortunately, the animation didn't match the manga for large parts, but it was still far from boring.

@samsince04 : Oh no, I did love Nagi's goal. Aiku (EDITED because I mixed up the characters xD), of course I loved it, I already mentionned him. My favourites are the brothers' flashbacks. That's about the only ones that looked fairly good in that season.

That's far from enough for 14 episodes. I'm used to shows that are amazing all throughout. Season 1 was a great example. I've just finished Shokugeki no Souma too. The first couple of episodes are cringe, but after that, up until episode 14, it's 100% mind-blowing. Every episode was breath-taking.

I'm not into the fanbase, so I don't know how that arc was received, but I get that it be good in manga. I will argue though, that if a classic football match is what you consider the best of the show, then sorry, you're the one Blue Lock isn't for. The reason Blue Lock is the title is because Blue Lock, the selection, is the whole plot. This arc is objectively a pause in the selection since they're trying to save the concept of Blue Lock. It's a full brake in the selection process... in the whole concept. It's like Pokemon suddenly stopped being about Pokemons for a full arc...

@Dante012 I hate to break it to you, but a lot of Blue Lock after this is rlly just football match after football match which I enjoy for the most part lol...Even in szn 1 it was the same. Not to say there aren't sequences where we take a break from football to focus on "lore", selection related stuff, etc but those sequences last like 5-6 chapters at most before we go into a match that could last more than 6 months if you're reading week to week.

I enjoy pretty much everything Blue Lock offers and haven't found the bad parts boring enough to make a post about it. Why wouldn't it be for me?
