 The official website of the Versailles no Bara (The Rose of Versailles) anime movie revealed seven supporting cast and a character trailer on Friday. The new anime adapting Riyoko Ikeda's historical drama manga will open in Japan on January 31. Cast Madame de Noailles: Fumi Hirano (Urusei Yatsura) Louis XV: Houchuu Ootsuka (Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken) Rosalie Lamorlière: Saori Hayami (Spy x Family) Colonel d'Agoult: Jin Yamanoi (Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu) General Bouille: Akio Ootsuka (Vinland Saga) Madame de Jarjayes: Sumi Shimamoto (Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä) Maximilien de Robespierre: Kensho Ono (Bungou Stray Dogs) Ai Yoshimura (Ao Haru Ride) is directing the movie at animation studio MAPPA. Tomoko Konparu (Kimi ni Todoke) is penning the script and Mariko Oka (Jigoku Shoujo) is designing the characters. Hiroyuki Sawano (Shingeki no Kyojin) and Kotha Yamamoto (86) are composing the music. The historical drama manga ran in Weekly Margaret from 1972–1973 and was compiled into ten volumes from 1972 to 1974. Shueisha later reprinted it in 10 bunkoban volumes from 1977 to 1978. Ikeda drew a four-volume side story between April 2013 and February 2018. Versailles no Bara sold a cumulative 20 million copies of its volumes. Tokyo Movie Shinsha produced a 40-episode television anime that aired from Fall 1979 to Summer 1980.
