I wouldn’t call it sad. It’s a bit bittersweet, there’s at least a few emotional roller coasters, the atmosphere is mystical. It’s definitely one of these series that caused that I love anime as much as I do, even if I watched many other series before it aired.
And it’s definitely one of my essential anime series.

Dub = fake crap. Always.

I would rate it 6 to 7 in my Sad anime scale, the Makoto's and Sayuri's arcs are the best in the tearjerking area.

one of the best ones that can make you broken, I liked Kanon(on my top 10) more than Clannad and Air, but they are similiar and heavy, Key stuff is crazy good

couldnt find any point in the story to totally feel with the chars, but clannad was also not my cup of tea, so.
was more a "well ok, of to the next series"

I like dramas, but the clannad style isn't my thing I guess.

it can be somber at times, but things are tied up nicely; I cant say anymore without ruining it. it's not ef: Tales of Melodies (ugh just thinking about it makes me sad) or Clannad After Story level like others have said.

Angel Beats was significantly sadder to me. I don’t even remember what happens in Kanon 😅

Its sad for sure but the appeal of the show in my opinion is the winter/snow town atmosphere. Very cozy anime.❄️😌

One of my all time favorites, this anime has a mellow way of pulling at the heartstrings. 10/10 would definitely recommend.

Just finished Mai's arc now, it's a sad story, but Makoto's was tear-dropping.
I am still watching it for the first time, so I am preparing for more sadness XD

I am still watching, but found Kanon have pure sad vibes, for angel beats it contain some action and music, which is almost none of these are in Kanon and Air.

But unlike other anime that is one story one topic, it's just a closing arc and opening another that you know that it will mostly be a sad story for another girl, the roller coasters in the short term but you know that there is a downhill.

I rewatched Kanon this week, since I didn't remember anything (instead of Angel Beats! I saw a few years before that).
I would say AB is sadder, but damn Makoto... It rekt me hard. After that, it feels rushed, as they had to pack everything faster. It's still a good anime, a bit confusing for certain parts.

on a scale of konosuba to clannad (0-10) id put this show around 7, still well worth the watch just for the vibes tbh
