A sequel would be nice, but I’m not so sure anymore. Maou-sama, Retry!'s sequel changed the art and story style a lot. If they do the same here, it could go either way. I’m not expecting too much, though.

Cool, I like this anime. One of the very first OG isekai I watched before the isekai genre became oversaturated. I just hope there's no studio change and the animation improves which is highly likely imo.

What is this with all those AI generated isekai trash getting sequels lately?
I know it's mostly because of anime being fully mainstream and their are just milking it, but seriously... There are so many other great series that are in the limbo.

@Piromysl im not saying that it's great or shit, but chatgpt became popular in late 2022 soooo it's more of a copy&paste of the popular stuff at that time. also iirc, this LN was the highest selling LN of that year.

I'm glad this got a sequel after all this time because it gives me hope for other series that need a sequel! (not COTE tho, f$ck u Kadokawa!)

Because isekai titles sell extremely well in Japan~

Death March LN sales is 5m, same as Eminence In Shadow.

Some interesting LN sales numbers for comparison:
Slime: 40m
Mushoku Tensei: 13m
Re:Zero: 13m
Bookworm: 11m
Konosuba: 10m
Campfire Cooking: 7m
Eminence In Shadow: 5m
Cheat Skill In Another World: 3m
Seirei Gensouki: 2.7m

Correction: Death March has 8m sales.
I don’t follow Death March news. Sorry for my mistake. XD

@Piromysl

I think Japanese work culture is the root cause of all these AI-generated isekai titles.

Japanese tend to be burnt out from their overwork cultre, so they end up writing all these AI-generated isekai titles on web novel sites as escapism from their real life.
And then Japanese publishers such as Kadokawa, HJ, SB Creative picks up on these works and publishes them as light novels.
Japanese audience has a lot of pressure from school/work and read these AI-generated titles as escapism.

That is the main reason why isekai LN titles sales reach millions easily while other romance titles struggle to reach 1m.

Oh yeah, there are more old man isekai nowadays, are they targeting old people? XD

Japanese fans and the international fans have very different tastes.

I tend to use Altina The Princess and Isekai Maou for comparision for this case because both titles have same authors.
Isekai Maou sells wellin Japan but international fans dislikes it for being a typical AI-generated degenerate isekai trash.
Altina The Sword Princess did poorly in Japan but international fans like it for being a war drama.

Death Daughter And The Ebony Blade is another title that sells well among international audience but sells poorly in Japan.
Japan also likes romance titles but among international fans, other than Angel, all romance titles sell poorly.

I just rewatch this series recently and I have b
been waiting patiently for a sequel.

Thank you for the update!
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I really enjoying the anime, with English dub.

Do you think that because of this, I am missing enough that I don’t understand the story?

I am reading a lot of comments from “isekai haters” and “clone accusers”, but I don’t really see that you are viewing this anime objectively.

The isekai genre is not as bad as people make it sound, plus some of the most successful anime in recent years have been from the isekai genre, “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” & “Eminence in Shadow” are just two examples.

Anime is based on written material that has been influenced by and use similar ideas to other works that came before them, which means that all anime have been influenced and use similar ideas from anime that came before them, so your comments claiming “copying/cloning” do not hold weight.

Focusing on anime “surface level similarities”, reveals that you did not follow, pay attention to, or just ignored the differences in each anime that make them unique unto themselves.

——

I enjoyed this anime when it came out, and I still enjoyed it even after rewatched it recently.

I am glad that a second season is coming out.

Thanks to the original poster for the update!

@ejleon I wouldn't worry about missing anything. A lot I read is because I'm interested in what happens and pretty sure the show isn't going to be continued. Death March to me is a fun read, but I don't think it will adapt well in the show. Animes are nothing but a revision of the source material. A lot of it is going to be the same. There's always going to be things taken out or added in the show. Another reason I wouldn't worry about reading source.

I agree with you saying here. Basically, everything can be considered a rip-off of something else. It should be just enjoying what it is. Rather than picking it apart, saying the counterpart is so much better. If that's true, they should just re-watch the other show.
