Kadokawa announced on Thursday that Yama Wayama's Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. (Captivated, by You) and Karaoke Iko! (Let's Go Karaoke!) manga are being adapted into a television anime. The official website also revealed the main staff, teaser visuals (pictured), and a teaser promotional video for both anime.

Staff
Director: Asami Nakatani (Genjitsu no Yohane: Sunshine in the Mirror)
Assistant Director: Yukiko Tsukahara (Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san episode director)
Series Composition: Yoshimi Narita (Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi)
Character Design: Mai Matsuura (Sirius)
Music: Takurou Iga ("Oshi no Ko")
Studio: Doga Kobo

Wayama debuted Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. as an anthology at the COMITIA 127 event in February 2019. Kadokawa acquired and published the manga in a single volume in August that year.

Wayama originally published Karaoke Iko! as a doujin at the COMITIA 129 in August 2019. Kadokawa published the manga in a single volume in September 2020. Wayama began drawing the Famiresu Iko. (Let's Go to Family Restaurant) sequel manga in Monthly Comic Beam in November that year. Kadokawa released the first volume in December 2023.

Yen Press licensed both manga in English in 2021 and published Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. in July that year, followed by Karaoke Iko! in March 2022.

Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. placed second in the female readers category in the 2020 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings. The manga was also nominated for the 13th Manga Taisho award and won the Short Work Prize at the 24th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2020.

Karaoke Iko! placed fifth in the female readers category in the 2021 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings and was nominated for the 14th Manga Taisho award in 2021. The manga also received a live-action movie that opened in Japan on January 12.

Synopsis (Muchuu sa, Kimi ni.)
Hayashi's frank, guileless demeanor quietly draws the attention of classmates and strangers as he counts all the stairs in school, photographs street signs, and dries sweet potatoes on the classroom balcony. In a world shaped by conformity, Hayashi is refreshingly and unapologetically true to himself. Conversely, Nikaidou has worked very hard to perfect a gloomy, dour façade that keeps his classmates far, far away. While much of the school regards Nikaidou as a bad omen, one student catches a glimpse behind the mask and-undeterred by rumors of bad luck and supernatural powers-begins to pick away Nikaidou's carefully crafted persona... Synopsis (Karaoke Iko!)
Nothing worries Satomi Oka more than the upcoming final choir competition of his middle school career—right up until he is accosted by a stranger from the shadows who demands, "Let's go karaoke!" As a yakuza, Kyouji Narita doesn't scare easily, but a terrifying prospect has driven him to seek Satomi's help. The boss is holding a karaoke contest, with the loser forced to get a tattoo to be selected and torturously applied by the boss himself! Oka has been to many vocal rehearsals over the years, but never one-on-one karaoke sessions with a gangster!! (Source: Yen Press, edited)

Nothing against these anime, but considering we're talking about a dominant moe studio, it seems Doga Kobo is becoming increasingly insecure about its current identity.

@ZXEAN There is nothing wrong with expanding your horizons per se. But Doga Kobo has always been a studio with a certain identity and style. Which has always guaranteed quality and passion in adaptations of certain genres. Therefore, I would not want them to simply become a pocket studio for as many different projects as possible.

@RobertBobert Currently majority of people knows Doga Kobo as Oshi no Ko's studio. Doga Kobo being a Moe/CGDCT anime studio is long gone. They have realised to survive for a long term and for being relivent they have to expand their horizon.

@ZXEAN I don't think they had any problems with success and relevance even before the appearance of people who believe that Doga Kobo is a noname studio that became famous for Oshi no Ko.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. It's not just "Karaoke Iko!" getting an anime adaptation, but "Captivated, by You" too?! Somehow this news missed me until now, but I didn't expect them to get an anime adaptation (especially "Captivated, by You"), so this is a very pleasant surprise. I trust this studio to do a decent job as well. Although these series are both on the shorter side, so I imagine they're only a few episodes at most (and maybe they'll be squeezed into the same set) or made into two movies in the way "Look Back" was.

@zedtronic Yeah, I feel like I'm eating shockingly decent this year. It'd be great if "Kieta Hatsukoi" gets an adaptation as well, but I'm really hoping for "Blue Flag" to get an anime (preferably by Kyoani).
