I really like Komari's character.

There was a popularity poll quite some times ago(the "Best Girl" poll), and there were way less votes for Komari than I anticipated (tbf there were only a few episodes aired). At the time I was already amazed at how great the VAs are. However, Komari's VA, Terasawa Momoka in particular absolutely blown me away with her acting.

There are many shy characters in anime. But Terasawa Momoka has her unique kick to it. The deeper voice than the typical high pitched, the way she speaks with impediment, voice cracks etc. really delivered a refreshing take to how a shy character can be portrayed. With the latest episode dropped, I cannot emphasize enough just how good her voice actress is.

And compared to Lemon's sophisticated arc, personally I find Komari's arc more relatable thus enjoyable for it's simplicity. Kinda like Yanami's arc at the beginning. Since there isn't any big philosophy to justify or anything, it can solely focus on building Komari's character. Just a shy girl whose only belonging is the literary club.

Just wanted to share my appreciation for Teraswa Momoka as Komari and this anime.

this show is just so good, I don’t think they have missed on any character! Lemon is my favorite character by far because like you, I relate to her a ton. Ask anyone who their favorite character is and you will get so many different answers. Goes to show there’s so much to love about every character.

The author is pretty goated for writing such good characters. With the fact that A-1 made this adaptation, this gotta be one of the best anime of the year. Hope that they wouldn't end with the original 12 episode and would continue adapting a S2 in the future. Although the 11 episodes are already nicely rounded up, there is just a feeling in me that doesn't wish their story would end.

Yanami is the most relatable to me from that time in my life, other then I reacted much differently. Haha. I knew a Komari and found out later in life I was her President, which sucked to find out I inadvertently hurt her.

But Lemon is my favorite. Maybe because I have always had a soft spot for the more feminine Tomboys I've known.

But all three were well written, well voiced, and had relatable feelings. And our poor MC seems to be the one who can help gather up the pieces of their heart. And although he seems to act like it's a burden, his conversation with his sister I think really showed the heart on his sleeve. I love this show.

As for the polls... most of them have Yuki from Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian near or at the top, so I don't take much value in those. 🤣

I understand Komari’s feelings, she is really trying her best to achieve anything she desires, but in my opinion, she is not suited to be the club literature’s president. A club president must be open-minded, full of energy, smart, with critical thinking, but Komari doesn’t not have this characteristics.

Pretty sure you miss the whole point of her arc. (character limit)

I did not miss anything, I’ve watched all the episodes so far. It is pretty clear that Komari is too shy and I know she is giving her all to be the best, but she is lucky to have her friends supporting her. She will never be let alone, like she’s thinking.

Voice acting has been brilliant in this anime. Just as you said Komari's va is great. Able to portray her shy demeanor and of stuttering to also switching to when she was angry.
Yanami's va is also phenomenal. The work she has done to has made Yanami even more lively.

Komari's arc is indeed the best. I like Komari and Yanami both really hard to say which I prefer more.

imo Komari is how you should do a "shy girl"-character
just because someone is shy doesnt mean they dont have ambitions and goals they can work for and overcome certain hurdles
she is just such an earnest character i cant help but root for her every time she sets her sights on something she wants to achieve

and the way she constantly stumbles over her own words was kinda annoying in the beginning but over time i fell in love with it, you go girl you can finish that sentence, i believe in you, youre doing great haha

ikr, her stuttering is truely one of her charms. And when she gets emotional and finish a sentence smoothly, the intonations in contrast with her usual way of speaking really puts into perspective how much emotion is put into her sentence.

definetely, i usually dont like the shy girl-trope but her earnesty and lovable way of talking makes her my favorite from that show so far
i also have a lot of respect for her voice actress for, despite apparently not having that much official experience, doing such a great job

I just find her super annoying. She's by far my least favourite character of the bunch. She wants to do everything herself, even though she's not capable. People were going out of their way to help her and she took forever to accept their help. I was so pissed when she threw the bottle in nukumizu's face, annoying little brat.

Komari is very cute, but I think Lemon and Yanami are the better girls. I did like Komaris arc though. Maybe I will eventually warm up my opinion of her.

I think this arc was my favorite, but I'm a bit biased to the drama-focused arcs usually. I also think that Komari had the advantage of being built-up for the longest, so she becomes a more established character before her arc even starts, which helped me relate to her more.

One thing that confused me about her arc was why she became president in the first place. I spent some time thinking about this, and what I came up with was that she was the most attached to the Literature Club, so she thought that if she gave the role to someone else, then they wouldn't be as committed which would lead to the club crumbling apart and she'd be alone again. So she wanted to have the reins to keep everyone together. That combined with her wanting to carry on the torch from her senpai. But the responsibilities were too much for her to shoulder which is why she got confused under all the pressure at the park when she got mad at Nuku. Is this a fair interpretation?

Thanks for creating an entire thread for this.

Outside of the actual writing, she already has so much character just from the way she moves and the way she talks. Those helped me warm up to her character a lot, even when she was being stubborn and abrasive (Episode 11).

The weird yelps when she gets jumped, the coughing from spicy udon that just goes on forever, the tearful confession where she just squeezes out her words, the awkward snickering, the way she seems to cut her sentences short or kind of trail off.

I really liked Anna and Lemon's voices, too, actually. It's just been so much fun to listen to these 3, even if I can kind of understand why people find them boring or unlikable characters.

This show has been a masterclass in expressing very specific characters with uncanny precision from all the voice actors and actresses. I may have a favourite character (Komari) but the cast have all been running at 100%. Can’t choose. But Komari’s ED song is one of the best anime songs I’ve ever heard so I guess Terasawa san might have the edge…

Definitely my favorite character and episode.
The most satisfying and realistic conclusion I've seen for a shy, socially anxious character.
Also, i think Komari and Nukumizu are very much alike, more than he thinks. He just doesn't realize it yet.
He says he prefers to be alone, but in fact, he is the one who asked Yanamai to be friends. So yeah, Him and Komari actually seek the same approach with relationships.

...you're right, OP. personally, i prefer more tomboy-ish characters (like megane-chan);
but this was, maybe, the first time when unsociable shy character stole the whole show
