Note that I'm not a manga reader, so I'm not even sure where it fits into the story. Anyway, back to my question. Does anyone know if this particular OVA will be re-adapted into the modern version? In my opinion, Kenshin's backstory needs to be seen to fully understand the Battosai nature he is so desperately fighting against. We've already seen a few flashbacks of young Kenshin in his iconic blue outfit in the Tokyo arc, so it wouldn't make sense if it was left out.

Well it happens in the manga as a flashback so they’ll adapt it as a part of the series, but keep in mind… the ova isn’t as faithful to the manga as you may think so it’ll most likely a bit different from the ova.

Imo the ova is better than how it was originally portrayed in the manga.

Tsuioku-hen (Trust and Betrayal) is a group of flashback Chapters from the Final Arc, a few event after its start. If a 3rd Season happen (which is very, very likely), it will indeed be re-adapted (i'd say around Episode 6 or 7).

As pointed out by the user above, the OVAs changed a few things tho, especially in its representation, which is more gruesome and without comedy. It's a common opinion to think that the OVA adaptation is way better than its Manga counterpart.

I believe there were rumors of this being a long-term project so eventually Trust & Betrayal will likely be re-adapted. The OVA is a standalone masterpiece of its own and I believe the staff behind LIDENFILMS are well aware of the fact that it's a standard that can't really be surpassed as it was helm by a complete monster of a director (Furuhashi). I believe it's probably in the best of interests that the production committee isolate that story from the tv series and turn it into a movie adaptation. The new director, Yuki Komada is hurdled with huge expectations but since she did some hefty work being an assistant director to Hamasaki's Blade of the Immortal, I think she may qualify for the task. If not her then there's also Tomoyuki Itamura, who's admittedly the strongest freelancer director at the studio and he also storyboarded/directed RuroKen's 1st op, but I'm not so sure how his creative choices will fare so well outside of his gothic-vampire tastes. Personally speaking I am not really looking forward to seeing these chapters adapted as there isn't much that the remake can capture and if anything, it'll likely fall short and have this superficial feel to it considering anime is pretty commercialized now so it needs to appeal to a wider audience with its music choices from industry artists as well as keeping up with modern designs.

The OVA is just simply a work of art created in an era where creators were highly skilled and where anime wasn't so big enough to thin the industry.

LIDENFILMS is putting in great efforts despite limitations so credit is due and I'm also looking forward to seeing how they'll depict this arc through the expectations of modern-shounen action, however when it comes to stuff that transcends the medium, there is little hope to be seen as creativity and resources has even more limits within the scope of the modern industry which heavily appeals to consumerism.

Of course. It's a faithful adaptation of the original manga and whatever side stories released after/during the main story ended. T&B was in the original run. So it definitely will be.
