I just finished the original bartender and immediately started the new series glass of God that aired this year, did anyone else feel like they completely butchered the atmosphere, aesthetic, ambience and tone of the original? Everything from the animation, setting, character designs, voices, and personalities, to the music is all so off. while its Essentially the same show nothing about it feels the same or as good as the original. How did you all feel about it?

I agree that the setting and the storytelling for each client story was weaker. But the relationship development was pretty much better at this remake and seems more faithful to the manga making it easier to empathize with Ryuu as we get to know his past.

i agree with you, however the original was never about the girl and the bartender developing a relationship. the focus was on his ability to read customers, and make them the perfect drink while getting said customers backstory in each episode. its not a romance and i don't think it should be or work well as one. also the cliche modern anime tropes they threw into the new series takes me out of it personally. even the essence and personality of the bartender is completely different. i'd even go as far as to say he's almost opposite of the character he was in the original. I've never read the manga so i have no comparison there im just q bit frustrated and let down at how drastically they altered the tone of the entire show. it makes it something completely different.

The 2024 adaptation is good and it's more faithful to the manga. It's a good watch if you're interested in the backstory but I adore 2006 more.

2006 is not faithful to the manga but it has soul. It is pure iyashikei despite its ugly animation. That I can forgive.
