| Damn Mashima you son of a gun baited us with the Pino reincarnation at the end haha. But I'm actually happy with what we got. Pino's pino and their child will be their child. So happy Shiki x Rebecca sailed but NaLu still the same as ever lmao. But this gives me hope for a conclusive end to their tale as well. It was great watching everyone gather together one last time for Rebecca giving birth. I'm thinking Weisz x Hermit sailed as well. What a journey in the cosmos this was. Love Mashima's works and this one as well. Will miss it. Mashima GOAT. |

| Like, WE COULDN'T SEE THE CHILD! Like, I SAW SHIKI HUGGING PINO BUT NOT HIS CHILD! Ok then. What about the others' shipps? Nothing? OK! Not even a single smooch of the main couple? GREAT! I'M SUPER OK WITH IT! Seriously, what happened?! Mashima did a really great romance in his first manga, and with all the other's couples in that as well, SO WHY DOES HE DOESN'T DO THAT IN HIS NEWEST HISTORY'S?! He regressed so badly in the topic "romance". I didn't like that Pino returned, but I really like that she DIDN'T returned as their child. It's not the best ending, but an "ok" ending for me. |

| I like that Pino chose to be a machine. Accept yourself. So the 6 year run is already over. It's a shame that Edens Zero didn't fulfill it's whole potenial(there were parts where I liked it more than Fairy Tail). Mashima could've done a lot more with a world as big. It was a fun read, tho. |

| I love Fairy Tail. Why am I bringing that up in a forum about Eden's Zero ? For the longest time, I've read a lot of criticism towards Fairy Tail. The nonsensical power-scaling, the power of friendship solving everything, the incessant fan-service and so many other problems that have been elaborated and discussed by many. I never cared about any of it. Fairy Tail was the thing that introduced me to this medium, so it will always have a special place in my heart, a place that makes it hard for me to look at it objectively. Now imagine a person who hates Fairy Tail and Hiro Mashima's works in general. Who feels like all the criticisms I've mentioned in the paragraph above are the things that define Mashima's writing. Now imagine said person writing a parody manga to satirize Mashima's body of work. That manga would be Eden's Zero. The power-scaling isn't terrible in a way, since there is no constant new big threat who is even more dangerous than the last threat. What is nonsensical is the way in which characters received new powers. Mashima used to have the decency to make the characters actually work for their power-ups but in this manga, characters just get them because the plot needs to move on. Mashima's writing has also gotten noticeably worse since the end of Fairy Tail. There is no nuance or subtlety to the way he writes the story or the backstories of the characters. He literally forces tragic backstories at the end of an arc, like an afterthought (especially egregious in the case of Drakken Joe) or hamfists explanations during fights (like for Elsie and Justice). I'm not saying FT was a paragon of beautiful writing but one of the best parts of FT was how he managed to weave in the backstories of characters during arcs, making it feel organic. In Eden's ? Nope. Everyone has a tragic backstory that will be explained in 5 pages, so you better start feeling sorry for them. Not to mention all of the conveniences, coincidences and blatant dues-ex machinas at the end of every arc to move the story along. I have a lot more criticisms of this manga but I'm going to stop it here. Mentioning anymore seems pointless. In spite of all this, I did enjoy reading this, although it is forgettable and I didn't really care about any of the characters that much, even though they were kind of likable. I'm just soo fucking disappointed by this and I feel a lot of dread for how Mashima is going to handle 100 Years Quest. |
