The official website of the Sand Land anime movie announced an anime series on Tuesday. The website also revealed a returning main cast, staff, and a teaser visual (pictured). The anime will stream worldwide on Disney+ in Spring 2024.

The series will include new scenes that were not featured in the movie, famous scenes from the original manga, and a new story written by Akira Toriyama that continues after the movie.

Toshihisa Yokoshima (Cocolors) is returning to helm the anime with Hiroshi Koujina (Hunter x Hunter (2011) director) as direction advisor. Hayashi Mori (Ame wo Tsugeru Hyouryuu Danchi) is penning the script and Yuugo Kanno (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 3: Stardust Crusaders) is composing the music. Yoshikazu Iwanami (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV)) is the sound director.

The anime adapts Toriyama's fantasy adventure manga, which was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from May to August in 2000. Shueisha published the manga in a single volume in November of the same year. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English and released the volume in December 2003.

I'm not sure I like this...but if this is a full length, 13 episode show, and the movie part is only like five episodes, I guess I can deal with it.

Hoho, sounds grand! I like movies turned into episodic series in style, with additional content. Here we're gonna have a brand new sequel story from Toriyama-sensei himself! :D I can't wait to see it. Sand Land's story is really wholesome.

I'm more interested in the game, but I want to see this.

But really, Disney+? don't folks realize that Disney is hated by overseas fanbases, like its on its way of becoming universally despised, even by the media.

@Hoppy In my experience, when it comes to Western audiences, many producers are still somewhere in the mid-10s with the perception of Twitter and its audience as the ultimate cross-section of Western popular culture. I don’t remember what year Carol and Tuesday premiered, but from it and shows like G-Witch and Oshi no Ko you can roughly imagine how the modern industry sees Western trends.

@Hoppy Money is money, and Disney has a lot of it. If they are willing to license it, producers are not going turn them down.

@Fail_Man_X Not to mention they get most if not all of the production costs back by squeezing everything they can for licensing so everything after is pure profit hence why mappa made so many "Netflix anime"
I'd rather die a free man then live under the rules of idiots
