This show promised to be an action but turned to be a kind of shoujo :(

Why would a charity escort service that only takes jobs from those who can't afford to hire escorts hurt the business of for profit companies? If that other guy's business is bad, it seems like it must be down to his company sucking rather than from Angel Links taking jobs that he never would have considered anyway.

only thing that appears to be an answer to this is that one more competitor entered monopolized market where prices were forcefully held above effective level. Due to monopolization of price that dude could have done low number of jobs for more payment, when someone starts to sell his merchandise for lower price , that means overall price will go down or he will start to lose customers. (ppl who realized they dont have to spent their whole saving, or ppl who would have to take loan to get his services, they now get other option, etc)

Can't explain that for myself in any other way.

Operating as a free pirate-fighting service, Angel Links seems to receive sponsorships in order to fund itself. I suppose Leon Lao, who was heading to the sponsorship reception, would be one of the sponsors.

When they were escaping from the enemy's vessel, the cast entirely forgot about Duuz, who was locked away.

Good piraty action but too much oppai for a 16 year old. The good thing is now I know Gainax didn't invent the cleavage critter thing.

Actually that was Leon's vessel. At least he wasn't blown away. Would have been a terrible way to go tbh.

This anime was not what I was expecting. Outlaw Star is one of my favorite anime so I was excited to see that the spinoff was finally available in English at a reasonable price. It's unfortunate that this opening episode makes it look like this will be a mediocre anime.

The fundamental problem with this spinoff is that it deviates too far from the original series. Outlaw Star worked by being a realistic, yet fun and comedic, space cowboy adventure. The cost of fighting was a big deal. Every single fight cost money in repairs and ammunition, which the Outlaw Star needed to pursue bounties and odd jobs just to make ends meet. It was so difficult that the crew kept on getting more and more into dept throughout the series. Angel Links has thrown out the importance of money in this first episode by the fact the company operates for free.

This focus on funds in Outlaw Star put limits on the strengths of the characters. Gene Starwind couldn't use caster every single fight because the bullets were rare. He could solve every problem with his ship because the repair costs cause their own problems. Angel Links seems to have no limitation because she has a super weapon that was used twice in this episode. Unless a cost is identified later, there seems to be nothing that can stop her.

Interesting, but not what I thought this series would be (expected more grappler ship dogfighting and pew pews).

^ Completely agree with Phaeton's assessment

Meh. We get a very brief flashback or two that hint at Meifon's past, and a brief introduction to her crew and what they do. This episode put the action up front, but I never felt like there were high stakes I should care about, despite the mercenaries destroying the initial escort ship. Meifon is not lacking in leadership and combat ability, but she's also not endearing to me personally.

I'll give it a couple more episodes, see if the characters and story develop in a way I can care about.
