I followed the sequel buttons in MAL and ended up with Sotsu after watching that OVA which I don't even know how it was supposed to be a sequel.
Anyways, I am very sure I remember the same thing happening in old Higurashi as well... Is this a redrawn version of the old Higurashi? Should I watch it?
I mean, I am very sure that I've already seen Rena trying to get rid of Rina, the scamming wife and all.
yes.

While Gou and Sotsu do repeat some of what happened in the earlier seasons, they are both very much sequels and should be watched after completing the original series if you want to continue the story.

Since the original series finished some time ago, I imagine that they wanted to refresh the memory of people who watched it when it first came out, with some episodes being entirely a repeat of what has already been shown, while other episodes are entirely new to the series, and others involving a mix of old and new content.

Much of the repeated content can be safely skipped if you're getting bored, as it won't add much that you don't already know, just make sure to quickly scan through the whole episode for anything new.

That's not it. It is not at all repeated content or a recap.

If you watch it, watch it from begining to end. Don't be skipping because you think you already know what happens, because you'd be wrong.

Gou and sotsu are sequels. Of course it would look like "the same as old higurashi" but redrawn, it's a story about a time loop after all.

But you should realize that, although it seems as though it is just a remake, another version of the same scenes of the old higurashi, they are actually different loops. They start the same, but at some point they begin to diverge.

I really get the opposite feel. Former higurashi 2006 wouldn’t knock out characters for no reason and then fail to elaborate as the well known rule of the villagers protecting there own is just forgotten about. Because if there’s one thing I like it’s inconsistency

Do not watch this garbage. Newer does not mean better.

It’s the Deen anime, the manga, and VNs. That’s it.

Yes, all of it is a sequel in a new loop, but some of what happens plays out almost exactly the same as in the original series. If you are able to recognise a scene from the original and remember what happens, then you don't need to rewatch it, do you? These parts can largely be skipped, but some scenes mix old and new content, and it's these parts that you have to be careful not to skip. As you said, some scenes do start out similar to old scenes, but then begin to differ. Some of these differences are minor, and you might accidentally skip them if you are skipping ahead, but most of the changes are rather major, and you'll notice that it's different if you are carefully skipping. Only one or two episodes don't include any new content.

Only skip if you are getting bored with scenes that you already know what happens, just keep skipping a few minutes ahead, and if you don't recognise the scene, then it's new content and you can watch it. Definitely don't try and skip past the scene completely without checking if there's anything new. For me, it was clear which parts were new or old when I was jumping past old scenes on my second watch of Gou/Sotsu, and skipping old content made them much more bearable to watch, and I wished that I had done that on my first watch.
