You can easily start with this if you want more manga-accurate and newer anime in general. But if you want something older and nostalgic, you can try the first anime first.

I’ve never seen the original series, but I have read the manga and seen all of crystal. I enjoyed crystal, but the first season is not great in terms of animation and writing.

I highly recommend to watch the older ones, because they leave out so much info and plot in the remake!

Sailor Moon Crystal follows the manga material, so yes
after that is Sailor Moon Eternal
And finally
the anticipated movie of the entire franchise that's coming soon
Sailor Moon Cosmos, no international release found, and some day we'll get it

As others have already said, you can start with this one then just watch the Crystal seasons/movies in order to get a pure manga adaptation.

If you want the filler (which I'd argue is where the best character development happens), watch the original series starting with Sailor Moon.

The important thing to know is that Crystal is a remake rather than a continuation, so it isn't necessary to watch all 200 episodes of the OG show first.

Yeah you can, it follows the manga more closely than the original anime and is more action oriented if that's what you like.
If you like more slice of life and fillers (that are mostly entertaining and have great character interactions and character development) than I recommend the original anime.
Both are pretty great though :D

It’s just basically a remake. I prefer the old one tho.

Absolutely, it's much shorter so it's a good starting point.

Although I do think the older one is better

I've seen the latest movie, but the remake is more for people who have seen the anime before the remake or the manga, as the story moves along in a much more abbreviated manner.

If you're watching it for the first time, I'd recommend the old anime series.

I think Crystal and the manga are the best things to get into Sailor Moon, when you’re over 13 and don’t have the motivation to watch an old 200 episode anime with many filler. If you’d like to watch the 90s anime afterwards you should definitely do it, even tho some characters differ from their manga/crystal counterparts

I wish I could agree you with this one but there is no character development in 90s anime. They stay the exact same from first episode to 200th one which feels like a joke. Manga is fully a coming of age story to those who can get it though
