How did Mie get to school if she can't Mie without her Glasses?

The explanation that was given for this was "She lives next to the school"

Episode literally answers that explicitly... I used to live right next to the school when I was a kid too, and would sometimes forget my glasses because I only wore them in class. Of course, things are exaggerated here because it's a damn show.

People with glasses and a bad sight can do a lot of things without them because of manual memory. I am the living example; when I was a kid I often forgot them.

Guys there's also different kinds of glasses for different kinds of purposes. Some people only need glasses to see things close (you know like a textbook) and can see perfectly clear far away 🙃

Seeing fine details like writing is completely different from seeing large structures and roads.

I mean she has bad vision but she’s not blind. And she lives close to school so she’s probably just used to the walk

Your bad comprehension doesn’t mean the writing is bad. Simple listening and deduction answers the question.

As a bad sighted person, I can go out without my glasses if I don't do anyhing like shopping and taking a class when you have to see things very clearly. But my sight isn't as bad as Mie-san's. There is no way she wouldn't notice if she can't see clearly for even 10-15cm before her (to read her text book as an example). Maybe the author dosent needed glasses ever in his/her life.

As somebody with horrible eyesight on par with Mie (like this is totally just me without my glasses lol, and I do mean bad, like 5cm from my face bad), I can tell you that the tough part is making out the finer details on objects/people and reading. It's really not that hard to have a general direction of places (especially if you're familiar with them) and to move around without your optics. Also note that the stuff she's reading is Japanese, so it's even harder to read when you have all these similar radicals and characters that have subtle differences on the page. I can relate to her so much.

Edit: and yeah obviously this is anime and some plot devices are conveniently used, like her forgetting her glasses a lot, or getting the wrong locker and shoes. But the whole eyesight thing, totally on point, assuming hers is as bad as mine is

She just did the exams with glasses?

(edit: "get to school" as in get accepted to school, seems like rest of the comments mean literally walking to school on daily basis, not sure which one OP is meaning)

if you lived in Japan for any measurable amount of time you would know how easy it is for blind people to move around town.

it's not that difficult to figure out...

nearsighted doesn’t mean blindness dawg💀💀

I mean, I was horribly nearsighted as a teenager (I eventually got surgery to fix it), and it was extremely obvious to me if I hadn't put on my glasses...but I still was not as bad as this girl, 'cause the way she's acting gives the impression that she'd be legally blind without her glasses... the second day when she said she'd broken them makes sense, but just "I forgot I was totally blind" is a huge stretch

Why wouldn't they back her up into her house to grab the glasses, given how close to school she's supposed to live?

I want to like the show, but the premise is really challenging my suspension of disbelief

There are more than answers of it .

She had FRIENDS
She lived close to school
She had myopia not like she was blind, reading words written on paper and seeing big objects while walking are very much different.

Let me clarify something: having poor eyesight doesn't mean being completely blind. I too rely on glasses to accomplish tasks because without them, my vision becomes blurry. Well, to be precise, I can still see, but my ability to see things clearly in front of me is impaired.

She's right next to the school and she probably saw a lot of students with the same clothes and just followed them.

As someone who has eyesight probably just as bad as Mie,

We aren't blind LOL. It's wicked blurry sure, but you can still make out vague shapes of things, and if you do the route every day, you can fumble through it. I may not be able to see your face from afar, but I can still tell there is a person there.
